js 7 string

When I went to see Joe a few months back, he had a js 7 string. I love my js for lead stuff, but some of the leads I wrote have been written on my 7 string rg 1527. The js has a better tone (to my ears anyway) and I would love to play these leads on a js. Does anyone know if there are any plans to release a 7 string js and if so, any ideas on price and release date? Or did they just make a couple of them for Joe?

If they're not planning on releasing them, does anyone know if it would be difficult to take a js body and convert it to a 7 string?

Re: js 7 string

IMO it will be cheaper to make JS 7 string body, than converting 6 sting JS body. I don't think Ibanez will release JS7 string, but it is a pitty. I don't like 7 strings, they are too big :-) . But I would definetely buy JS7.

Making the body would be cheaper, but if you not going to do it yourself, then I say good finding someone that can make it.

Re: js 7 string

So sad that Ibanez will not release a JS-7. It has been said that there will never be one. Not enough demand.
I would like to see a JS-7 in White. Ever since I saw one, I thought it would be awesome that Ibanez releases one but wishful thinking...

Re: js 7 string

I'd buy a JS-7 too.

Over and over on this forum we are lamenting models that many of us would love to see get to production, but won't because Ibanez doesn't see enough market. While individual feedback will have little impact, this seems like an ideal environment to send a bigger message to Ibanez. Somebody should start a list of the JS7 and the other JS, JEM, RG, etc guitars that so frequently appear on the wanted list. Then let the forum users cast their votes for the models they definitely would be willing to buy. Let the numbers tell Ibanez for real whether the market is there (maybe it really isn't). With all the users on this forum, I bet at least some of the models would have enough guaranteed sales here to be worth at least a short production run (say one year). It couldn't possibly cost Ibanez that much to make a one year run of JS-7s from the existing JS series, and most of the JEM modifications discussed here are quite a bit simpler. Of course the signature lines will never get the models unless the artist approves, but Ibanez needs to see the demand before they are even going to consider it.

The guitar is build by a company named Harper's Guitars I think but they have closed down their business for different reasons.

Re: js 7 string

"Different reasons" is being diplomatic, but the guitar in question, while by no means a JS in specs (thicker neck, body radiused differently, etc) was executed well enough and is supposed to sound and play quite good.

I'd love to grab a JS-7 (in either the natural or red - joe's got one of each) if it ever hit the market, but I'm not holding my breath. There's too little demand (and what there is of it is idle speculation - honestly, how many of you have the cash ready to go for a JS-7 right now? I know I don't, without selling my UV which is definitely NOT an option) and Joe really doesn't play it that much. Speculating about one isn't going to accomplish a thing, and even if you get fifty or sixty guys here to say they want one, that's only 50 or 60 peices, and like I said, how many of those are confirmed sales, and how many will STAY confirmed once you put a $5k price tag on it, to reflect the production?

If you want a "Joe Satriani seven string," might I point out that he cut "Ceremony" off CP with a stock UV?

I wouldn't sell my UV to get a JS-7 either. LOL
I read in an interview that Joe was using the UV before the JS-7 but I didn't know he was using it on CP....Interesting....

Re: js 7 string

Not very much, I believe "Ceremony" was the only track he used it on, and even then I'm pretty sure it was just for the rhythm guitars. 99.9% sure there's no seven string on "Engines of Creation," and by "Strange Beautiful Music" he had his first JS-7.

I think he has three - there's definitely two, an oiled mahogany JS7, and a red JS7, but the original oiled one had very boxy contours - it looked like a proof-of-concept model - and I think I recall seeing a few pics of a more "rounded" JS7. They could have simply "finished" profiling his original, of course. Or, I could be imagining it.

Re: js 7 string

His rhytm player has another mahogany JS7, or it's borrowed from Satch. Drew is right about body differencies. His first JS7 had sharp curves (inside horns) while the new JS7 looks like his red JS7, or just JS (smoother horns). But I like more his doubleneck model, the reverse head is amazing. I'm thinking about custom JS (baswood with black quilted maple top) with reverse head and birdseye fingerboard and middle singlecoil.
