JS Chromeboy - Copy

Just checking out there what people would think.

I have a line on a guitar builder that can fab me a JS body and Neck and also Chrome (Not Paint and not the "G-G and Guitars" Guy) the Body and Headstock Face.

Now a part of me wants to make it just like a full blown JS10 (I had #040 ...... once.......), but another part of me wants to be a little different; so I was thinking about putting a fixed bridge on it.

This guitar probably won't be a keeper, but I was curious what folks would think about it either way.

I'm getting into building guitars for profit, so when I heard that one of my vendors for bodies/necks did chroming as well, I had to at least consider it.

Well for a profit an exact copy would probably be a far better seller. As the chromeboys are nearly impossible to find anymore.

If you are going to build exact replicas for profit would you not run into copyright issues?

On that small of a scale its highly unlikely. Lawyer fees are going to be more than the actual winnings from the case.

Their is a spposed chromeboy on the Detroit Craigsl list, I was wondering if its real, says it was limited to 20 produced?

Not sure about that. An in-house legal department would not bat an eyelid to send through a cease letter. Whether they choose to pursue it in court or not is anyone's guess....but a guess none the less

A replica chromeboy would be awesome....but a JS flame (silver surfer) would be my choice.

Chrome is cool, but it has to be done properly. I've seen chrome copies that were really not that good (they either looked like old tin or matte silver paint) and they didn't have any appeal to me whatsoever.

So unless you know that it can be done very well, I'd say have some kind of nice color put on there that's never been on any production JS. Like a nice mint green or something. That would catch my eye, for sure.

But if you're going the chrome route; I'm sure many people would find a chromeboy with a fixed bridge very interesting. But there is the new JS1600 which is so much similar. So, I'd say put a whammy on there.
