JS: What other pickups have given you good results?

I own a JS1000BP w/ the old fashioned Fred and Paf Pro. I absolutely love the combination, but I am considering buying another JS guitar and trying a set of humbuckers that are very different - particularly with more output. I know that a pickup will sound different from one guitar to another because of a guitar's body wood.

So, what other combinations have given you good results? Some combo's I'd be interested in:

[Bridge / Neck]

- Super Distortion / Paf Pro (or) Air Norton
- Duncan 59 / Alnico Pro II
- Evo's
- Mo Joe / Paf Joe

...what else would you recommend?

I had a WH and a BTB. I put blue Evos in the BTB and hated it how it sounded through my legacy.

I do however like how "Pearly" sounds on Live in Sanfrancisco. I always thought about trying Pearly Gates in my WH but never got around to it. Plus, I have heard that Joe only put PG's in that particular Chromeboy because it had some strange quark and didn't sound good with the original pickups. I think I remember hearing that they tried a bunch of pickups and landed on the PGs.

+1, I have the Breed pair in one of my JS100s and they sound fantastic. Quite different from the Fred / PAF Joe pair, not as smooth and more agressive, but awesome. They coil tap well as well.

Another pair definitely worth considering is the D-Sonic and Air Norton coupling (the 'old' Petrucci set). I have this pair in two of my JS100s, and it is a great combination - really versatile with plenty of bite and that lovely singing neck pickup lead sound. Cleans up nicely too.

+2 Breeds sound amazing in most any guitar made of basswood

I had breeds in my JS1000 for a long time but recently made a switch to the Duncan Blackouts and haven't looked back since!

Well, the Seymour Duncan TB12 (George Lynch's Screamin' Demon) has been fantastic to me. It gives the JS a bigger sound with more Low end and screaming highs... but on the same aspect, the sound is well balanced. It gives the sound. It's difficult to say what pickup fits better to the guitar, because sound (like colors) depend on the personal taste of the person who is playing. I personally love the sound of this specific bridge pickup on my JS... And most my guitar friends seem to like it too.

The Screamin' Demon is a great pickup for the JS, it's a Fred on steroids. I've also wanted to try a pearly gates combo on one. I guess a lot depends on what sound you're going for and if you want a JS that doesn't sound like Satch, or if you just want a slightly different shade of Satch.

That's right... A fred on steroids is a good description for that pickup. I wanted a "Joe" sound that would give me more growl and kick... If youi listen to Lynch's tone... That's most likely true in some aspects of the sound in question. I just love the results of the pickup change!

After recently buying a set of used Bare Knuckle Mule pickups, i won't be buying any other brands. I threw them in a Bacchus Les Paul Goldtop and sound amazing. I am wondering what a similar set would do for a JS1200 or a Jem.
