JS100 Restoration/Modification

Hi All,

I know I post alot of stuff on this forum but I seriously need your guys' help on making some decision regarding a restoration project of my 2000 JS100 I bought. Heres the damage already on it

-cracks, dings, dents, belt marks on the finish
-neck plate is cracked and warped
-knobs are loose, electronics are damaged pickups are fine
-damage to the wood near the tremolo
-bad tremolo, warped around the bar, fine tuners are jammed
-screws/mounting holes are too big making the screws loose
-the strap pins are not the original
-the satin finish on the neck has turned glossy

I was thinking...

-refinish the body in original color (black)
-replace screws
-new trem
-new pots and knobs

I need your help with...

-Where do I get an Ibanez Prestige Neckplate ?
-what kind of trem do you guys recommend? original is low trs 2 I was thinking GOTOH FLOYD, or the japanese Takeuchi TRS-Pro or the Takeuchi 101, not the OFR

You can find neckplates on e bay, and I'd go for the Gotoh.

it was descent when I bought it at the price of 300 from craigslist. It was actually quite good till I brought it home and took a better look at it. anyways I needed a new guitar, mexican strat was out of the question and ibanez charges too much for their korean models.

ok I might of over exagerated the damage especially the finish, it has like 2 cracks and the rest where on the back with just wear and tear lol

pics are as follow

-damages to the back of the guitar finish, cracks, belt rash etc
-under the trem post of the left you can sort of see the damage there, basswood is soft so the damage is like a piece of it is gone
-the small crack idk if its the wood or the finish i didn't see it when I bought it
-the neck has a glossy finish not satin with a dent in it

Could you take a better picture of the crack on the top? What area of Craigslist?

The top 3 pics are kinda blurred. It's difficult to see the crack and the problem with the trem post. Could you take them again?

Pics are as followed

-damage near trem cavity not on trem post but finish/wood damage in front of it
- you can see the copper crack of the neck plate
-the belt rash/ crack on the body back
- The spring cavity. there are suppose to be only 6 screws there are 8, and they are kind big meaning i can still screw it down but its not tight and damange on the edge of the cavity wall and I dont know which tension screw is the original my guess in the on the far top.

1. You overpaid for this guitar IMO.

2. All I see in the picture below are surface scratches:




3. I can't figure out what's wrong with the neck plate on this pic:




4. All I see here is that a piece off the finish right behind the pickup ring has chipped off, which isn't a major problem IMO:




5. If the trem cavity plate cover screws aren't securing the plate tight enough, go to home depot, buy a little tube of elmer's wood filler and fill those holes.




If you're going to refinish the body, you might as well get a Lo-Pro or an Edge and have whomever's going to do the refinish enlarge the trem cavity to fit a Lo-Pro pr Edge.

If you go the refinish route, why not pick a different color?

thanks Jimmy, at time i do believe I over paid for this guitar and I rushed to get it also. Ironically, like a month after i bought the guitar, I saw a post for a JS1200 for only 700 and i was mad, and then again i saw one for another JS100 that had the Edge III. But i didnt buy the guitar my dad went with me and bought it. I was fine cause i knew it was old and was going to have its dings but i didn't realize how bad.

oh and the neck plate is blurred but you can sorta see theres like s line that goes down the pate vertically its crack and it shows the copper underneath.

also I'm the one doing the refinishing this is a project of mine to relieve me of the stress of college life. I Am a freshman so its hard with the money and all. So I might as well stick with sort of original spec and get one of the 3 trems I mentioned cause they retrofit and i dont have to buy a router just for this job

This looks like a guitar that I had. Is there a crack on the top by the knobs?

I don't think so, because its a part on the top thats looks like its been refinished the paint is not smooth almost like the person colored in on or sprayed it on with touch up paint

Also there are two dents/cracks near the the edge of the top below the pickup selector and a larger dent/crack on the side.

I dont know how many owners this guitars been through the guy I bought it off of said he bought it in California it was at a Guitar Center sitting in the Used section of the store

it was made on June 29, 2000 # 32 in Korea

I would Also like to add that the trem anchors are uneven with each other. If you look at the picture the anchor on the left is completely recessed and the one of the right is sticking up a little. Also the trem heigh post on the left is stiff I can move it but not by hand.

(Wow I didn't realize how Effed Up this guitar actually is, but hopefully by the time I'm through with it, it will look play and feel a lot better)
