I'm confused regarding what I can replace my Lo-TRS II with: I bought an OFR from the bay and wanted it fitting into my JS-100 but the luthier I took it to said that it wouldn't fit, and that it would sit in the trem cavity but poke out of the back of the guitar and make the trem sit too high.

Every other site I've read (plus many a thread on here) say that the OFR is a straight swap for the Lo-TRS II so is my luthier wrong? It was definitely an original Fender Floyd Rose, don't know the year but the box it came in was red and had a retro-looking 80's design.

Can anyone help please? I want to get rid of my sh*tty Lo-TRSII to complete my JS100 retrofit but am totally confused about what to buy and don't want to shell out for a trem system that won't fit. I don't necessarily want a Floyd Rose, I love the other (sturdy) Ibanez trems like the Edge Pro etc. but there seem to be so many versions out there now I don't know which one to look at buying.

Cheers
got pics? i have done this swap dozens of times with no incident. would really llike to see what you are describing.

Re: js100 trem upgrade ?

No sorry, but from what you have written I'm assuming my guitar guy has it wrong!

His main issue was that when the OFR was in place, the trem block poked out the back of my JS100. Does it require filing?

Re: js100 trem upgrade ?

No. The block ont he OFR is longer, hence why it pokes out. Replace the block with a smaller one and it should work fine.

yup. that is a common problem. all you should really have to do is swap the one from the lo-trs 2. sounds easy, but is fairly time consuming. lo-trs 2 and floyd rose share alot of the same dimensions/parts. most notably the trem arms/holders, saddle lock blocks and tremolo block. you will need both sets of allen wrenches:2.5 and 3 mm to swap, but keep the saddles in order, they all look the same, but they are different heights. the d and g are the same, the a and b are the same and the low e and and high e are the same. this is so they will match closer to the radius of the fretboard.

Re: js100 trem upgrade ?

Ok thanks for the advice guys, I didn't realise the trem block could be swapped.

What is the trem in the photo above, please?

Albee, why are you suggesting things that add more confusion?

The route on the newer JS100's is different because the new trem shares similar dimensions with the Edge Pro. With that being said, I doubt an Edge III or a Lo-Pro (like the one in the picture) would fit in a JS100. Some people have gotten lucky when retrofitting a Lo-Pro or even an Edge into their JS100's but not every JS100 will have the same capability. I have heard some people mention that if the trem was made by takeuchi, then the swap would be possible.

That's a Lo-Pro Edge.

Re: js100 trem upgrade ?

And it did require a little routing. Good point on the newer ones having a different bridge. The routing mod is really not complicated and only requires a single template available from stewmac.com. Not trying to confuse anyone. Just thought I would toss it out as an viable option.

Re: js100 trem upgrade ?

I just swaped the tremolo on my js100 with a floyd rose pro and works like a dream, I've read and read about swaping to other ibanez trems and the only that fit on the js 100 are the lo trs 1 and II, also the OFR and the floyd rose pro, not the ibanez lo pro but the floyd rose pro, try that, they are cheaper, stable, have good rebound and stay in tune, I have played a lot with my new trem and is way better than the Lo TRS II. Good luck!!!

Post some pictures of it (and of the swap if you have them). Did you have to replace the studs?

Go to photobucket.com, open an account and upload them there. Once they're uploaded, copy the IMG links from there and paste them here.
