JS100 Upgrades - Phase Switch

Hey there all on Jemsite

I have a 2000 JS100 and I plan on upgrading the components within the next year. I have some ideas I just need some input thanks

1) Ibanez Lo-TRS Trem II replaced with Gotoh Floyd Rose in Cosmo finish

2) Stock set of tuners replaced with better Ibanez Tuners in Cosmo from Ibanezrules.com

3) Axis Humbuckers replaced with PAF Pro and Mo Joe

4) Stock Electronics replaced with better quality electronics w/ high pass filter

5) Strap Buttons replaced with.....i need some suggestions for this

6) Hardware (Locking Nut, String Retainer,Knobs,PU Rings) replaced with better hardware in cosmo finish

I have a few questions as well
-Where can I get the 330pF capacitor needed for the high pass filter ?
-How do I wire a phase switch (like on his JS2PRM) ?
-Any suggestions for strap button replacement?

For the strap go with a DiMarzio Clip-Lock. They have never failed on me a i play hard like a spinning the guitar around you and throwing it and etc. I love them and will never buy anything else but DiMarzio straps.

For the capacitor, possibly here http://www.pololu.com/

Re: JS100 Upgrades - Phase Switch

you have 2 choices for the strap button replacement. The choices are:

1 Schaller straplocks

2 The stock Ibanez straplock buttons found on the the JS1000 (Because of their wide head, they're not very likely to allow your strap to come off the guitar. Stay away from the Dimarzio cliplocks, they're likely to damage the finish on your guitar because the cliplocks are always on the way somehow.

I would personally try to see if you can fit a Lo-Pro or an Edge Pro instead of the Gotoh. If you're going to spend the money, you might as well do it right.

Tuners should be last in line for an upgrade - with a locking trem you won't be using the tuners all the time anyway and the standard ones fitted will work just fine.

+1 for Lo-Pro/Edge and with the saved money from not buying new tuners (Also a +1) it will cost your less.

Re: JS100 Upgrades - Phase Switch

Yeah I did the calculations and here is what they are....

Gotoh Floyd Rose (Cosmo Finish) (Guitarpartsdepot) - $130
Gotoh Locking Nut (Cosmo) - $30
Ibanez 6 in line Tuners (Cosmo) - $60

= roughly $220 before shipping/handling - i think guitarpartsdepot free shipping on the nut and trem

and

official Ibanez Edge Pro from Ibanezrules.com = $255 before shipping

and I dont know if its just the tremolo by itself or if its the complete set - Trem, locking nut, string retainer, studs, arm, etc

and I dont know if i want to mess with the TRS/OFR route

Re: JS100 Upgrades - Phase Switch

If you're going to go a different way than Gotoh don't go for edge pro go for lo pro or edge because the arm holding capabilities are no good on it, you shouldn't really have to mod a trem at that price.

Re: JS100 Upgrades - Phase Switch

i have been doing some research as I too am going to upgrade my js100 and so far people are saying that a Original Floyd Rose will fit into the js100 without any modifications. On the 'bay they are usually running 130 for a used OFR.

Re: JS100 Upgrades - Phase Switch

With all the upgrades you're looking to do, might it not be better to try and purchase a used JS1000? I've seen some go for 800-1000 bucks and you're looking to pay 5-600 in just parts if you do all the stuff you intend, possibly more if you're going to pay someone to do the wiring stuff, etc. I think it's something to consider.

I had a clip lock on my JS1000 but I put regular strap locks because the plastic clips are annoying when putting the guitar in the case.

ive made some quick estimates of the cost of new parts and buying them from guitarpartsdepot here are some numbers before shipping

Gotoh Floyd Rose CK - $128
Gotoh Locking Nut + Retainer Bar (comes in same pack) CK - $22
Gotoh Tuners CK - $40
Dome Knobs CK - $7/set of 2
Gibson/Ibanez/PRS Strap Buttons CK - $2
Dimarzio PAF Pro + Mo Joe - $140

= $340 roughly

extras (not really necessary, last minute decision type of things)

Ibanez Prestige Neckplate (I think thats the one) from Ibanezrules - $20
Pickup Rings Black Metal guitarpartsdepot - $18/for 2

what I hope is to get some of this stuff as gifts or something haha

yeah, gotoh has a designed a floyd rose that has designs from the Ibanez Edge and the Original Floyd Rose like Edge 3 Saddles, looks like an Original Floyd Rose - Edge sorta hybrid

it looks sick especially in a cosmo finish, the image is kinda dark, i think just to show the viewer its not totally black
