JS1000 and JS1200 differences

I've been looking at both guitars recently and thinking about replacing my SG with either of them. But I can't see many differences. I know the bodies are a little different, and they have different neck pickups, but whats the deal with the necks? One is x-series and one is prestige, whats the difference?

I didn't think the body was any different? I thought it was just the pickups and finish?

X-series? Where did that come from? The JS1000 and JS1200 should be identical beyond finish and the neck pickup, and the PAF-Pro is going to be pretty darn similar to the PAF-Joe, I would think.

And just the neck pick-up at that.

Both guitars are virtually the same aside from one pickup and the color. I really would like to know where you came up with this whole x series because there has never been a js that had an x denomination whatsoever.

Re: JS1000 and JS1200 differences

I have to been trying to decide which way to go. From my research, both guitars are the same. The only exceptions are one, the obvious, color. The second being the neck pickup, and based on the information at dimarzio.com, basically the Joe that is in the 1200 is suppose to have more treble.

I really enjoyed the JS1000, that I recently got to play, but the shop did not have a 1200 for me to compare, so for me its a tough decision based on color and if I need more treble than what I have already experienced. I would like to know how much difference there is, although its not very much from the number perspective on dimarzio.com. And I have read that Joe is pretty much using the MoJoe and PAF Joe on stage now.

Re: JS1000 and JS1200 differences

I own a JS1200 and have played js1000's several times in stores. I haven't really noticed all that big a difference between the PAF Pro and the PAF Joe. The little bit of treble difference can be EQ'd in or out simply enough. I don't think you'd notice much sound difference in most applications. It basically comes down to which color you like more. I preferred the 1200 for the flashy red and because the headstock was matching, but the 1000BP is still a very cool color as it shows different hues when the light hits it differently.

A certain site said the JS1000 had an x-series neck, but whatever. And by body differences I mean that one is flat and the other has a curve alone the edge.

The bodys are the same. The necks are the same. The only difference is the color and the neck pickup. Were you reading about the JS100 instead of the 1000?

Pick the color you like better. The pickup isn't a big deal, and is an easy change later if you change your mind.

Alright. I know you guys are going to be slightly biased on this, but do you honestly think its a step up from my SG? I played the JS1000 through a Peavey JSX, and I play my SG through a solid-state crate, so it was hard to compare. Never dealt with a floyd rose either, guess I can figure it all out.

The JS is a completely different guitar than the SG. With that being said, the JS will feel like you're wearing it because is extremely egonomically designed, as opposed to the SG, which will feel like you have a cutting board hanging from a strap.

In the end, it's only what it means to you that will make or break the deal.

Re: JS1000 and JS1200 differences

GDawg, its really all up to preference. The comfortability is going to be drastically different between the guitars. But what are you going for in the new guitar? The SG like said before is really a different animal.

Something that may help, is that I have an old squire that I have made some modifications to. My Ibby 7 is my main playing guitar now, and when I get my JS that will be my main playing guitar. So with that said, When recording I will use the old squire to lay a heavier tone to supplement the 7 which I use for the more up front and leads. So having different guitars provides you a way to achieve different sounds a feels based on the situation. Hope that helps.
