Re: Js1000 or Music man Axis
Well the JS1000 is basswood with a
maple neck
and
rosewood fretboard
and the Axis has a maple top and maple neck and fretboard. So they will sound different...

Re: Js1000 or Music man Axis
i own both, they and yes they are fantastic guitars. both guitars are basswood (although the axis has a maple top) and you can get the axis with a
rosewood fingerboard
(as mine has). i'd say the choice will really lie in what neck you prefer. both have stratty styled necks, yet they feel different from each other. the axis seems to have some sort of tapering on the back of the neck towards the
higher strings
. oh, and the frets on the axis seem to be smaller than the js1000 frets, which i believe are 6105s. another thing to consider is that the axis is customizable while the js1000 is not. you can go to the ernieball site and see all of the features available. i, for example, did not want a floating bridge, so mine has a fixed bridge. you can also get it with a standard strat style trem. there are plenty of finish options too. that being said, i personally prefer the js1000 neck, it's the most comfortable neck i've ever played (tied with the viper neck profile used on the rt series)i'd just recommend playing both of them until you figure out which one suits you best. either way, you can't really go wrong.

Re: Js1000 or Music man Axis
I also recently went through this comparison, and the neck was my deciding factor. I love the Axis and many of its features, but the neck just wasn't as comfortable for me as the JS was.

I'd go for the JS but that's just me.

Re: Js1000 or Music man Axis
I'd choose the Axis. more complex tone. i never liked the sound of dimarzio Fred that much, but a decent rock n' roll pickup.

Re: Js1000 or Music man Axis
JS1000 because of the overall neck feel. I hate Music Man's neck. I also dislike the headstock. The JS body is very nice and comfortable. I don't recall the
locking tremolo
on the MM though, anyone every tried it? i know it is not OFR
...but the ed r0man OLP mod sound pretty appetizing for $649

Re: Js1000 or Music man Axis
A few more advantages of the JS are the coil splitter and tone knob. Also, the Edge on the JS is floating while the Schaller Floyd on the EBMM is not and can only be utilized to drop the pitch.
Big advantage of the Axis are the maple tops and maple boards. The axis however, does not have an arm contour and some may find it uncomfortable to play for long periods.

The floyd in MM guitars is a Gotoh floyd and it's a great trem
. Just as stable as the lo

.

Re: Js1000 or Music man Axis
I would choose the JS1000 in a heatbeat but swap out the pickups just as fast. I would put a set of bare knuckles in it.

Re: Js1000 or Music man Axis
I like em both personally. But then again i use them for different types of playing. The js has a faster and thinner neck and the floating trem. So for a wild solo style this is superior. But the Axis has a non floating trem which to me sounds better and stays in tune better. But you can still wiggle out a good solo with it. I love my axis and it is still my number one. But then again i am not you. So play them both a lot. And remember this wisdom. When you can't put a guitar down you found the one to buy.

Re: Js1000 or Music man Axis
I have an Axis.
The contour is one thing to think and neck size, but definetelly, Axis gots more sound.
This is one TRUE thing that you will note.
More complex tone.

Re: Js1000 or Music man Axis
Have you considered th EBMM Luke? It's closer in body type to the JS with supremely comfortable contours. Sound wise, the EMG 85 and SLVs are an aquired taste (one I like a lot) but you have an HSS combination and 5 way switch for a lot more variety. The neck is more
vintage strat
and small, but supremely comfortable. Just a thought, but I'd be more likely to compare those two than the Axis. The Axis is a different beast altogether...
I have both teh Luke and Axis but the Luke gets played 80% of the time. The build quality is second to none either. I looked at the JS when I finally sold my Jem VBK and UV PBK and liked it a lot, but the Luke just offered so much more in tone variety, yet can rock hard with the best of them.

Re: Js1000 or Music man Axis
I have both the EVH Music Man (which was renamed to the Axis) and have had several JS models.
I preferred the Axis by far, in small part due to its maple board and
fixed bridge
. The pickups sounded much better to me than the combination found in the JS.
Generally, the frets are much smaller on the Axis, and the neck seems to fit better into one's hand. Some like this last point, some don't. But I found playing on the Axis to be nearly effortless, to my great surprise.
Lastly, the Axis feels extremely solid to me, which I cannot say about most of the JS guitars I have tried. Don't get me wrong, the JS guitars are great in their own respect, but I felt like I was getting a muhc better tool with the Axis. I was really surprised!

Re: Js1000 or Music man Axis
Yes, I must say I found the JS1000 neck to be quite thick.
