Re: JS1000 pros and cons

Depends on the player. How about some more information about what style you want to play, and what you look for in a guitar? What guitars do you have already?

Re: JS1000 pros and cons

Well i play mostly metal and joe satriani, steve vai kind of music. I have been playing for about 5 and a half years and i owned a Fender Squier Strat, a RG120, and a nice GRX20ZBKN.

Re: JS1000 pros and cons

I was torn between a JS1000, JS1200 and a Jem 7DBK.

I ended up going for the Jem mainly because of the neck, also I liked to cool finish and mirror pickguard.

At the end of the day its up to you - try them both

Re: JS1000 pros and cons

The JS series play like strats more than anything else. The neck has the same thickness and radius as an American Strat, but the tone and feel is obviously different.

The Fred pickup is very weak compared to a regular high output humbucking pickup, but due in part to this the tone of it is amazing. My 1200CA is easily one of my favorite giutars and gets played often.

One thing I have noticed is that pretty much all the 03'-'04 Ibanez guitars I've played in the last two years have needed fret levels due to a few high frets (my 1200 included). Yet, I've played at least 3 '05 models (an RG1570, RG1527, and an '05 JEM), all with no need for a fret level. If you can get your hands on an 'o5 JEM or JS then I would wait and get one of those if you're looking for brand new.

Re: JS1000 pros and cons

I just played a JS1000 BP at GS a couple of days ago.

FYI, I play hard rock (mostly 80's type stuff), but not really "metal", as I prefer some tone instead of molten gain powerchord stuff.

My rhythms are articulate, ala' Yngwie and the like.

The JS was a real eye opener--smooth, toneful and precise even through the Crate GXL (or something like that!). It was the only open amp.

I have a Malmsteen strat and an RG with EMG 81/85. This is a bizarre combo, since the Malmsteen strat has very low output PUPs and the RG has some of the very highest output PUPs.

My experience has shown that my tastes lie in a low-ish output pickup (relatively clean signal) into a nice "gainey" amp.

The JS with Fred bridge and PAF pro neck appear to do this well.
I am VERY tempted to purchase one...but I need a nicer amp first.

Re: JS1000 pros and cons

Hey guys. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the JS guitars have medium frets, and the JEMS/RGs Jumbo frets. Does anyone who owns a JS1000 wish it had Jumbos? I have Jumbo frets on all my guitars, and although I absolutely love the JS body...it's so comfortable with the rounded edges...I am afraid I won't like the medium frets.
Any thoughts or comments on the JS1000 frets?
Thanks.

Unlike most here I guess, I dont like the jumbo (train track) frets. So the JS's medium frets were great for my small fingers. The neck on JEMS always seemed to wide for me as with most jumbos. One neck I hate are Warlocks *barf*.

Re: JS1000 pros and cons

According to the Ibanez site, JS guitars use 6105 frets, the same as Jems

Re: JS1000 pros and cons

The difference between jumbo on RG's and Dunlop 6105 frets on JS models and JEMs is in thickness. They are the same hight but 6105 are thinner.
