JS1000 shipping info from Rich - Anyone know how much custom

Hi all (and Rich - I know you will pop in here soon ),

I am considering buying a JS1000BP from Rich, but because I am in the UK I am worried about customs taking it and slapping me with a huge fee for importing it.
Has anyone ordered anything from Rich (guitar-wise) and had it shipped to the UK before? If so, how much was the import duty on it?

Currently, the cost of a JS1000 over here is £1399. If I get it from Rich, it is £"a lot less" +shipping! So in total I am looking at about £"still less" to get it inc shipping - now if I add a further import tax on it...

Also, does Rich set the action/ fine tune it before sending it - like what he does with the used guitars?

I editted out your price quotes from Rich as I'm pretty sure he won't want them flashed around the web like that

What I can tell you though is that the import duty on the guitar +shipping is 3.7% as described in article 92 subsection 7 of the trades and tarriffs act and that the VAT is at the national rate of 17.5 %

In total you have to pay 22% or so on top of the cost of the guitar + shipping.

Oops - sorry Rich and Jono!
Luckily I think most people were sleeping when I posted this

Ouch about import tax! Shame I can't get him to say it was being returned due to a repair job

urrrrrm

Think the email you answered the questions on shipping costs and not import costs. I think my main aim of this post was to see if any UK peeps have imported in a guitar and if so, how much were they stung.

You know I am very nervous about importing it in - ie if it gets lost, damaged, high VAT/Import duties etc

Didn't mean to sound like I was after 2nd opinions or anything Just want to be reassured - heck, I am British and therefore parting with money is sacriligious

hmmm, sorry, Ithought I splained it all, except I keep thinking it's 24%

The only sure way I know is to seriously undervalue, as long as you pickup secondary insurance for the full amount you're covered, you just can't insure the shipment with the carrier for full amount.
