js1000 whammy help!

ive got a js1000btb..the bar has always been like this and ive heard of some techniques to fix this but am not to sure..so id ask you guys..

my bar seems incredibly loose...whenever i let it go..it would full swing round..

i would like it to be exactly were i leave it..so if i finish using it...it would stay were i left it...but is still easy to move...

like the way steve vai's..any suggestions?

the trem is the old edge pro if anyone was inquiring

Edge Pro or Lo-Pro edge?

In truth I'm not sure if that makes any difference. Is it this collar that's loose or is it the bar inside the collar. My JS1000 has the Lo-Pro edge and the bar is fine in that so I'll talk about the Lo_pro trem for now.

There's a collar into which you push the bar that is tightened with a nut on the underside of the trem.

If it's the bar in the collar that's loose, you can get new white bushings for the trem arm that should stiffen it up a bit, or you can paint the end of the bar in nail varnish (aparently) to make it slightly thicker and thus have more friction against the spring.

i think someone on this forum mentioned before that they use tape (electricians or duck tape) wrapped round once to solve the problem.

thanks guys...

the trem is the edge pro...

its the actual trem inside the collar as you can hear it squeaking from drastic moves. good thing is ive got two new brushings so ill try everything

firstly ill try the electrical tape so thanks richard ill try it out...and get back

Try the plumbers tape (thin) Wrap it once (or twice) in the slots and install the new bushings over it. Works like a charm

Or if you cant be assed doing that, take the bushings off the arm, paint a couple layers of varnish underneath where the bushings go, put the bushings back on, and there ya go

You cannot tighten it without removing the trem. (which really is no biggie

i tryed the electricans/plumbers tape..and it worked well..but its got that feel of ..'im gonna have to change it after a few days'.

once i placed a thin layer around the base of the arm it wouldnt fit in..so i placed on small 5mm strip over the brushings and that seems to have worked..but it was 5mm in breadth and about 1.5cm long..just placed over the brushings..

Wrap it in the slots "under" the bushings. Don't wrap too much or the arm will not fit in

It really does work well! So do the other methods mentioned.

It's all about increasing ~girth~

ahh i think that must be my problem..i simply wrapped the tape over it..

but the brushings must come off..and is it simply placing a layer on the 'brushing bit' and then putting the brushings on over the tape?

Yeah, wrap a bit in the slots (directly on the bar) and then fit the bushings over it. It'll be a tight fit, but that is what you want

in your opinions, when is the appropriate time to change brushings?

Just change the tape peroidically as needed and you won't have to change the "brushings" as you call them, lol.

In other words, you can re-use the old bushings

ahh right, here we go..

i tried these methods..the old electricians tape first, covering the brushing slots..it worked but i found the trem to still be slipping but not as drastically..
i tried a few more times but it was always the same so i just used the method that worked for me the first time..with a small strip places over the brushings
