JS1000BP finish durability

OK, I just got a JS1000 Black Pearl. *It is awesome of course. *The question I have is about the durability of the finish. *I had a Black JS100 for less than a year and a spot of finish wore off down to the wood where I placed my right pinky to anchor my pick hand. *I couldn't believe the finish wore off in less than a year! *Do I have to worry about this with my JS1000? *I play 2-4 hours a day. *I'd get some of those finish protector sheets, but I'd like to avoid them if I could.

Note, a little lotion goes a long way to soothe that sandpaper skin. Your wife will thank you!

I use a lot of lotion. *My other guitar (original 1987 Steinberger GM) has lasted 14 years without noticable wear on the finish.

Well both JS's have the same finish, polyester, which is about the toughest stuff every sprayed on a guitar. The 1000 is only different as it's a 2 part base clearcoat and the 100 is a 1 part Gloss Black. Unless you just hit a fluke with the 100 I'd be carefully watching the 1000, or put a condom on that pinky. :biggrin:

I have a js 1000 and havent had any problems with the finish

Same here. The finish on the the JS1000 is pretty durable. Make sure you wipe it clean after you're done playing with it (that didn't sound right

)

Sooo, Gsuing. Now that we've revived this SIX YEAR OLD thread from the very very very very deeeeep dark and utter depths of Jemsites archives, I guess only one question remains...

How's the finish on the js1000? gotten down to the wood yet?

I have a JS1000 too and i have had it for 2 years without any wear from playing. I play almost everyday for 2-5 hours. If you are wearing through the finish, you might want to that little adhesive "dot" that Joe himself uses on his original chromeboy. That thing was made of Lucite and he has played it so much that it wears through where his pinky is too.

The picture of that link shows his face to the left of the body, and you make make out a transparent dot that he sticks on.

On Joe's Chromebody (which also has wear from his pinky) there is a circular piece of what appears to be an adhesive dot. This is to prevent the finish from fading away. Here is a good picture of what i am talking about.

The first one of him to the left of the guitar. The "dot" is between the pickups, to the right 1.5". Hope this helps!

EDIT: There is also one a little further down where you can see the underlying color. (The one with the chromeboy in the red-lined case).
