JS1200 CA Neck

I quite like the idea of getting one of these guitars (my bank balance begs to differ!)

but I want to get an idea what the neck thickness is like as no local shop stocks them. The Ibanez site gives dimensions and it gives the impression that its about the same as a Jem7vh infact a little flatter (which i'm all for as I dig the 20th RG550 neck). But the radius dimension is much bigger, now I know what a radius is but I can't figure out going by the other dimensions why its so different to the jem?

so in a nutshell how flat is the neck? if it's too thick and chunky like an RG350 i'd be put off, but if its along the same lines as a Jem or RG550 20th then this will be tempting indeed!

The neck isn't flat at all. I have no idea as to how you can make such assumption. To put it in simple terms, think of a JS neck as a thinner Strat neck. With that being said, that was just something for you to get an idea and it's by no means a norm. I've got a couple of USA made Strats and the JS neck feels just as comfortable.

So, to answer your previous comparison question of a JS neck vs. a Jem neck, they are completely different.

thanks Jimmy, yeah I was trying to make my comparission going by the millimeter dimensions on ibanez site and they quite similar, well .. besides the radious dimension.

I have both the JS1200 and the RG550 20th, and I can confirm that the neck on the JS is in no way similar to the RG. Radius, thickness, fret size and number, all completely different.
The JS neck just feels "normal" a very comfortable, normal feel.
We all know what the Wizard neck feels like.

yeah going by pics it looks like a regular normal size neck, thanks for the input.

I keep wanting things my budget doesnt agree with, like that legacy carvin amp I havent got yet

but every now and then i have the 'ah what the hell' purchases

Well...assuming it's the same as the JS1000 neck.....then it feels tiny compared to the VWH

Both feel awesome....but completely different.

The JS neck doesn't feel in any way thick and chunky, no worries about that. There may be more "meat" round the back but the thin-ness of the width means it's not a problem at all. It's a beautiful neck but i personally find the VWH most comfortable of all

Yeah, but if he thinks an RG350 neck (wizard II) is too thick and chunky, forget it! It's a 9.5" radius, 22 fret neck with thin frets (6105s), so it's going to feel a lot more like a Strat than any RG or Jem.

Personally, I like the JS neck but not the frets - I want jumbos!

One of my favorite things about JS- guitars is their small frets. I wish I had them on my RG-520.

And that's why we have many choices of guitars, not everything works for everybody

The thing that kills me with the thin frets is they have kept me from getting many guitars I like otherwise - JS, Jem, KV2, SRV strat. I guess I could get one and get a refret, but these aren't cheap guitars in the first place and it sucks to think I would have to drop a couple hundred into one right off the bat. What's a reasonable price for a refret anyway? I asked one shop here and they were talking around $400! I said bye.......

Yeah, I have thought about refretting with my RG-520. I have heard of refretting costing about $150 -$200.

I wouldn't let somebody refret one of my guitars for $150-$200. Chances of getting a good-quality job for that price aren't good -- unless the guy has no idea what to charge for his work. Of course, $400 doesn't guarantee quality either. Check out some of the person's work first -- it will speak for itself. There's a big difference between slamming some frets in and doing a quality refret job.

Luckily my guy has been working on guitars for decades and works on all my friends guitars and does quality work. Of course the $200 price was in addition to $75 for a set up and intonation.

JS neck amd RG550 20th are notjing like each other (I've got both) The closest I've played in feel to the JS neck is a Warmoth Pro Standard thin with compound radius- dimensions on the web site:
