JS1200 good for all type of rock?

I keep hearing from on of my friends that he says that the JS guitars and Jems are not that versatile and that they are only good for music that the artist plays (JS/ Satriani, JEM/Vai) I want to know form owners if the guitars sound good for music like sabbath, zeppelin, van halen priest, maiden, etc..

you can play everything with a JS, not so much with the jem. I have/had different models of both and the jem is not an axe you would want to play a more chordal music with, its neck is too wide.

the js is like a super strat, you can play anything with it, its pickups are great for everything.

that said, i'd take a good ol' gretsch for country over any of the above

But if you want to finger pick youll have to use the jem you can get buy with the jems fretboard width for me personally the js is not wide enough and makes me play a little sloppy. I still love the guitars, but im only giving the most scrutiny possible, id personally killl for a js, but never as my main guitar, the necks too short, doesnt have the pickup options of the jem, etc. Of course with different pickups or wood types the jem would be far more versatile, but your better off in the end i would think with a high end prestige or j-custom with say a tone zone air norton pickup combo
