Question

JS1200 NJFC crack question

Hey guys im planning on buying a JS1200 from Rich at ibanezrules.com. But it has a 1/8" NJFC. I want to know if this is normal with JS guitars and if its a potential problem? Heres a pic

Re: JS1200 NJFC crack question

Its quite common for the guitars with the same style neck joint as the JS. A lot of older RG's have neck joint finish cracks too.

So long as it is just a finish crack then i wouldnt worry. My EBMM JP has a small (around 1cm) crack in the top of the neck pocket. Its just because that area of the neck has a decent amount of pressure on it, and if the corners are sharp, then it can cause the clear coat to crack.

Im sure Rich will spot this thread and explain it better . He mentioned that the new Ibanez cases arent helping the JS's when it comes to NJFCs wither.

Re: JS1200 NJFC crack question

They're called neck joint finish cracks but there is no mistaking they are in the wood. Basswood is prone to this and it's nearly always shipping shock that created them. I was on a nice string of good luck but then 2 of the last 4 showed up with them, which was a normal rate before my lucky streak.

Do they ruin the guitar? I have a guitar with a hairline crack in the neck pocket and it doent seem to be getting worse, should i look for a replacement?

Yep its terminal...a crack renders your JS 1200 useless, I can pick it up... so you dont have to go throughy the ordeal of throwing it to the trash bin...

Just kidding.... LOL

It's not going to do anything, it's just there. Abuse it to no end and it will probably start getting worse, don't abuse it and nothing will happen.

If you had a JS or Jem professionally custom painted is the nfc likely to re-appear through the new paint?

The distributor will run super glue in the corner of the neck pocket and then do a clearcoat touch up. Seems to be effective.

Like Rich said don't worry about them as long as you don't abuse the guitar you'll be fine .

Re: JS1200 NJFC crack question

I dont know whats going on this the JS1200 neck pockets, the most recent batch Ive seen in the UK have slightly 'oversize' pockets, you can slip a piece of paper or maybe sometimes a playing card down one side! I dont know if there is any downside to this but as least there shouldnt be any cracks appearing!
