Personally, I would go for the RG1570, as I'm an RG person and I'm not into signature models too much, but I wouldn't get the SZ...put the remaining money towards upgrading the pickups then you have a killer axe.

Gotta love the wife!
Personally, between all the guitars mentioned, I'd go with the JS1200 without hesitation for its versatility and TONE.

I'd be upgrading the pickups anyway on the RG. The point of having the SZ is for versatility, of which I would have very little with the RG alone.

Then, if you don't care about signatures, get the RG and SZ.

Go for the JS1200! It's tone and versatility is in it's class of it's own. JS1200 All the way!

I'd get the 1570 and substitute the SZ for a used Radius. You can probably find one that's around the same price range as a new SZ.

Well you wouldn't be able to change tunings very easily, but I find my RG to be pretty versatile. Everything from Oasis-style cleans to searing metal.

?
Crazy! RGs are insanely versatile.
Have you tried all 3 guitars?
Out of the 3 the JS is the best, and is very versatile, in my opinion the RG is the most versatile, but the JS is the best guitar.
I would first try out all 3 and see which of the 3 instantly appeals to you, but keep in mind that the JS is technically the best out of the 3.

Re: JS1200 or RG1570 AND SZ520 ?? (WWYD)
I didn't mean to offend anyone when I said RG's aren't as versatile. I'm just going by what I've read (probably dangerous).
If the SZ520 was a little better quality, I'd probably jump all over the RG/SZ combination. In fact, if the SZ2020 came in a color other than "skeletal / decomposing human body" I would definitely do the RG and SZ. Although I like the way the SZ520 feels when I play it at the store, I suspect I won't be pleased over the long haul. I've sort of become spoiled with respect to guitar quality since I returned a new (supposedly nice) $700 Martin acoustic for a new Taylor 414CE last year. But it's hard not to be tempted by a guitar that looks as good as the SZ 520. (My God !!! I'm so confused !!! I just don't know who I am anymore !!!)
Does anyone want to weigh in on my other dilemma (amp choice)?
Vox AD30VT (maybe AD50VT) [I tried the Peavey Transtube and did not like it]
OR
A small
tube amp
(e.g. Fender Blues Jr.,
Peavey Valveking
) with a couple of pedals to get the blues OD and distortion sounds I want at lower volumes? I only play at home (with a wife and two kids nearby) so I can't play very loud.

Re: JS1200 or RG1570 AND SZ520 ?? (WWYD)
Get either one of the tubes. If you crave for better cleans get the Fender. But if you want better distortion, get the Peavey.
