JS2CH and JS10th... are they the same?

The major difference is the JS2 has a basswood body and real chrome finish, while the 10th has a Luthite body and a metalic 'chrome'esque finish.

The other major difference is that there were only 8-12 JS2's released to the public? Oh yeah, and a couple thousand in cost, if you happen to find one

I was lucky to see an original JS2CH in real life. (Thanks Rich! ) It was in pristine condition, and obviously did not go through a lot of seasonal changes.

I would be interested in seeing a non-mint JS2CH and see how the chrome cracked due to the body's wood "working". I'm sure it would look like a cracked mirror or something :O

Your memory's hazy, mine's no where near pristine. Plenty of finish cracks and a nice large bubble developed on the back of it since you saw it

Hmm, maybe I was so stunned I didn't notice the cracks. But I do recall a *small* bubble and you being extremely careful not to touch it

The cracks are mixed in with all the pick scratches, you need a magnifying glass to see them, but they're there

i thought the 10th had a genuine chrome finish, and not merely chrome-esque? the luthite body was to prevent the chrome cracking like it did on the basswood ch2's because the wood expanded/contracted?

The 10th is a 'metalic' finish for sure, same principle as any metal over wood will crack as the wood breaths, the luthite prevents that. But chrome? Chromium is almost impervious to scratching, you clean chrome bumpers with steel wool.

I guess your originals doesn't scratch at all then, considering it's REAL chrome.

The chrome doesn't scratch, but it's wood underneath so you can still marr them easily.
