JS5 Rainforest

JS Specialists...what is a JS5 Rainforest worth? A friend's relative has one & there's a possibilty it'll be up for sale. I have been told he has owned it from new & is in exceptional condition. I'll be getting it cheapish any how if I buy it, just want to know how much I should insure it for?

There was one **** while back, I think went for something like 6000 USD or around that area.

Re: JS5 Rainforest

I'd say you should ask a store like either Machinehead in Hitchin or Sounds Great in Manchester for a valuation for insurance purposes on a guitar like this, preferably the former.

Their a pro-Ibanez Dealer and Jeff understands what a guitar like this is actually worth. A store like Music Ground in Leeds is Pro vintage/USA and would severely undervalue the instrument because a) it's not 40 years old and b) because it's from Japan.

Then I think you should sell it to me for what it costs you

In terms of what they're probably worth to someone who knows what they have, then I think you can probably add a 1 infront of that amount and you might be closer to the mark!

That's the only real forest in the UK still in original owners hands I know of, I know there are several fakes there though.

Why in God's name would you suggest Machinehead? In my opinion they don't really know their stuff, they don't even keep much Ibanez stock in. Very expensive too.

In my opinion, they REALLY know their stuff, better than any other store around, especially in terms of early 90's models. And yes they're VERY expensive if you want a written valuation from a store for insurance purposes you want them to say it's expensive so that the company pays out a higher premium in the event of a theft.

They don't keep much in stock, but that doesn't mean that they don't knowtheir stuff. If Ibanez made collectableslike the MCs and graphic JSes and anniversary series, you can bet Jeff would order them in

Alternatively, where would you suggest?

+1

I am a big Machinehead fan. Jeff and the guys really know their stuff, and always go out of their way to help you too. Yes they are more expensive, but the service and friendliness is great!

Fair points. I don't think I could make a suggestion as I feel that there aren't any real Ibanez specialists in the UK. I suppose you could give Merchant City Music in Glasgow a try, their site has some detailed information on setting up your guitar which gives me the impression that they know their stuff.

As for Jeff, well...I think I better leave it there.

The thing is, Merchant city might have a great website, but then so does Ed Roman! Who ya gonna trust, hubba hubba hubba who ya gonna trust?

Merchant City are great, they sell J-customs and everything, BUT... You don't need someone who knows about current stock, you need someone who knows about 10-15 year old limited edition collectibles !!!

and Adagio, seriously mate, what's wrong with Jeff? He's always been straight up with me! Gimme a PM if you wanna?
