Locking Nut - Help!

one of the holes for the locking nut in the back of my JS100 is off the mark. Seems like my Lo TRS 2 keeps going out of tune and I'm sure this is why. When you look at the JS from behind(Upright *w/ body on ground) the screw on the right will barely thread into the locking nut. I tried moving the screw around and moving the nut but no go on either. Any suggestions on a fix? I'm thinking fill and redrill the hole? Please help I don't want to ruin my Baby!

Locking Nut

How do you mean "it will barely thread"?? Is the screw too short, or the hole far enough off that the screw doesn't line up with the threads, but still screws in?

It's the hole. *Its not lined up properly! When you look at the whole on the left it's lined up perfectly and when you look at the one on the right you can see a part of the locking nut in the way! Thanks Rich!

If it's under warranty send it in and have it done for you. Otherwise use a drill bit the same size of the exhisting hole and just work it sideways to extend it as far as you need.

Locking Nut

Don't drill this yourself unless you are experienced and have a drill press.

First they are countersunk in the rear, so you can just drill with a standard bit. *IMHO you can really screw up the neck by drilling first and realizing you don't have the equipment to finish.

Next you must allign this perfect, otherwise the nut will be subject to loosening. You want as little play as possible. I'd have a pro fill it (w/ epoxy) then redrill/countersink the two nut holes. Good luck... glen

I didn't discover this until I used the remove the bridge with strings still attatched trick! Honesstly I don't know if I can afford to have that done. Cause I'm thinking there going to charge me alot being here in Japan to do something like that. Do you think I am better off just sending it back to American Musical Supply since it is under warranty? Thanks Glen appreciate the advice!

With the left screw in I have roughly 1/8th of the locking nut overlapping the hole. I've tried moving the screw up, down, and side to side but won't thread! Thanks sorry to be such a pain.

I'm still having a tough time following this >>1/8th of the locking nut overlapping the hole<< Do you mean an 1/8th of the screw hole in the nut is blocked not alowing the screw to line up? If so, this is a very tiny amount and a quick pass with a hand drill and the corrct bit size will give you enough clearance.

Rich,,,Scott will need to be careful with the drill. It is my understanding that the Korean necks have had issues with the nut screw holes being dangerously close to the truss rod...I could be wrong though.

I've never heard that one, but being carful anytime you take a drill to a guitar kinda goes without saying  It only needs to be extended to the exact point the screw will mate with the nut. I'm still confused as to how it fit before you removed the nut. Typically if it went together once, it should again

Locking Nut

This happened to me too!! I got my RG7620 and one of the locking nut holes kept stripping my bolts. I couldn't figure out what the problem was, but I thought that I would have a new nut installed because it was sooooooo *damaged. I took it to a tech to be setup and mentioned the nut also. He said that the holes weren't lined up, so he used his Dremel drill press and re-drilled the hole at no extra charge. Your case might be a little more severe, but a good tech should be able to take care of it.

When you look through the hole you can see 1/8th of the nut protruding over the hole *preventing the screw from threading with the nut properly. When I went to remove the bridge for the first time recently is when I discovered that the screw was only on enough to keep it from falling off. Two counter clockwise turns and it was falling out.
