loose neck joint?

whenever i pull up the trem on my new js1000, there is a tiny crackling noise, that i suspect comes from the neck-body joint. i checked the screws, they seem to be tight.
the reason this worries me is, that the tuning is not stable when operating the trem; i just want to make sure, itīs not a loose neck joint before exchanging trem posts and filing away on knife edges.
any suggestions would be highly apreciated...

why don't you take a screwdriver and tighten neck joint screws as hard as you can? there is no danger of doing damage.
and i doubt there is need to file the knife edges on a new trem.

My new JS is still doing the same type of thing - unstable tuning etc. I have to say, though, that the crackling noise has started to disappear now - maybe it just needs to 'settle in'? I've had it about 3 weeks now, but is a '99 and so had probably been in the dealers a while.

still have the problem with all strings going flat after descending, and sharp after ascending on the trem. Im taking it slow on the setup...

I'd be interested to know how you solve your problem

thanks for your reply; i am sure now, that the tuning instabilities (flat when coming up, sharp when coming down; you now the business) is due to the flat edges bad posts problem.
i did file my knife edege yesterday, according to richīs specifications; it was quite easy, but unfortunately, nothing changed.
so i will have to see where i can get hold of the new posts. any ideas?

Double check your locking nut and make sure it's tight. If that isn't the problem then check to make sure your strings are resting against the locking nut properly. The locking nut angles downward torwards the headstock, and so should the strings. Meaning the strings should be resting against the locking nut, and no gap between the two. If I'm confusing you I apologize. Hopefully someone can explain it better than me. Good luck, and don't worry you'll figure it out just take your time and be patient.

the nut is not the problem; it is tight and the tree is set up right...
i really narrowed the problem down to the bridge itself.
another thing: how can you tell when your guitar was actually built? serial number?

First 2 digits of the serial #.

Check the anchors, and make sure there not loose. The anchors being the part you screw your trem posts into. Hopefully thats not the problem but it's worth a look.

fortunately, it is not loose anchors; i did check that already.
no i am sure the problem is down to the shape of the posts. i already ordered some new posts here in austria, and hope that they are of the new shape.. keep fingers crossed
