Re: My JS White Project...

My fretboard restoration is complete.... About 6hrs or more of hand sanding, Filing and polishing.

Masked up the fretboard and adjusted the trus rod to get everything as flat as possable. Then Fret leveled.

I then time consumingly hand ball radiused all the fret ends and then re-crowned.

Hand polished with 400 grit , 800grit , steel wool then liquid Brasso metal polish on a machine buff...

My hands are aching but it turned out great....

Next job is restoring the 80s EDGE trem....

Re: My JS White Project...

Completed trem overhaul/clean today..

I always do this on all of my guitars as i get them..

-Completly strip every screw, nut and bolt.
-Soak all bolts washers and nuts in a bath of inox(like wd40 but oilier)
-spray clean all parts and blow off with compressed air to remove gunk from all nooks and crannys
-Polish all chrome parts with metal polish
-Dry all screws and re-assemble everything.
-Put a small drop of oil on each thread as its assembled.
-Done.....

I actually modified the trem block to suit the new application here. This trem was originally from an RS440 roadstar which has a thicker body than the JS, so after measuring the trem block from my 540R ive had to mill this one down 5mm or so and also drill the trem spring holes in to suit. While i was at it i polished the block...

Dirty and with strings in as delivered..

Stripped and bolts soaking..

Trem block measured and marked for trimming..

All finished... Turned out great..Basically mint.

Re: My JS White Project...

That's some really great work you're doing.
Just recently re-strung a friends strat after someone else replaced the pots. Thought I was good for cleaning come of the gunk off the bridge as I did it...

Re: My JS White Project...

Im waiting waiting on parts from the USA and the body back from painting....

Today i modified the non locking stud inserts to suit a pair of locking studs i have.. I got some 8mm short grub screws from work and ground the tops down so they are now nice and stubby. You can see in the pic the non locking insert with hollow bottom, the ground down 8mm grub screw and fitted into the insert. Once the body is back , before i donk them in i might Loctite thise grub screws into position.

Re: My JS White Project...

I did notice that on the newer string retainer bar they dont have counter sunk screws but on this older 80s ones they have the nicer bar and screws. It is also much thicker than any newer ones.. Note i left the oldschool rubber tubing on the screws...:-)
