My JS White Project...

Ive been Gassing for a white JS guitar for ages, and they dont come up in white often or the price is over the top, or i dont like baseball bat necks. So ive decided to create my own...Here is my progres so far..

- A JS100 body was bought from evilbay for a cheap amount. It makes me sick that im using a JS100 body but the fact is they are both Basswood and im gona strip it anyway and re route it for the edge trem makes me feel a little better... Call me fussy but a TRS trem route shape makes me nauseous
It took me 2 days to sand that crap translucent red finish off, then i re-routed the trem cavity to suit an original EDGE trem.
I also had to route the neck pocket to the correct depth. There was no way im going to have a high Korea stylr neck pocket depth. The foul korean trem studs have also been extracted tnd put in the bin. The correct locking type studs are being installed.

- I sourced a 1992 RG570 24 fret square heel neck from evilbay for a reasonable amount. I have test fitted it and chopped 2 frets off. I have also removed material from the last frets overhang so i can get it lower into the pocket for the correct fit. It is an "F" serial numbered 1 piece maple neck with the 17mm wizard 1 profile... My Preference..

- One of my main concerns was being able to source an original EDGE trem in chrome. As they are discontinued i thought it may be a bit tough to get.. I have sourced one from evilbay at a price you wont believe.. The complete trem, claw, springs, posts and stud inserts for a huge price of $95 dollars and i picked up also the chrome Toplok nut with bolts and retainer for a huge price $7... I was ovcer the moon...

- The stripped body has been dropped of to ETGUITARS for a complete re-finish in white. I was contemplating doing the job myself but i m going all the way with this job , so its off for a pro refinish with Ernie... Im hoping it turns out as good as his other work...

- Only the best is going into the build.. I have purchaced genuine Dimarzio Screw kits and will soon be getting the rest of the electrics. On the list is: Dimarzio push pull 500k volume and tone pots, Dimarzio Paf-Joe and Mo-Jo pickups....

- Im Still after a cast neck plate , so if anyone has one they want to part with please PM me...

Stripping JS100 Body of the spew finish... So thick..

Routing of body to suit EDGE Trem..

Stripped iand Primed body... Its now at ETGUITARS for the poly urithane white re-finish..

Re: My JS White Project...

Final sanded body before delivery to ETGUITARS for the re-Finish...

Such an bargain , $95 for a late 80s Chrome EDGE.... Ill srip it and overhaul everything and polish it up when it arrives this week...

$7 is way cheap for this...

So this is what im looking at making... A White JS but with the neck profile that i like..
If the paint turns out as good as this ill be happy..

I will update this thread as things progress..

Alex..

Re: My JS White Project...

Wow man, that looks really nice. I would have kept the 24 fret neck, but whatever suits you

Do you think you saved any money doing this rather than just buying a white JS?

Re: My JS White Project...

BTW, i've bought one of those from ibanezrules (rich) before. brand new, and i think it was equal or cheaper than you see used ones on evilbay.

Re: My JS White Project...

that's a very interesting pic, as it shows exactly where the 24th fret node is placed above the pickups, to get that Strat-ish snappy tone. nice!

wow, that must be one of the very early Edge trems, it has the rubber tubings on the retainer-bar mounting screws! congrats.

oh and great job, btw, the white JS rules

That looks very very nice.

Ibanez/JS should take some hints here.

Re: My JS White Project...

First minor drama... The late 80s Top-Loc nut i got with the EDGE trem is a 42mm width and the chopped RG570 wizard 1 neck needs a 43mm width, So i had to order a new one to suit....

The Actual width of the 80s chrome nut is 41mm, and the black one on my 91 540R is 41mm. The cosmo nut on my 89 540S is also a 43mm.

So it looks like 43mm nuts are 43mm... And 42mm nuts are actual measurement 41mm. Wierd.
