noob alert: restringing JS1200

Hello there, I just finished playing my JS1200 for about 15 minutes and the tone is horrible and the guitar definitely needs a new set of strings replaced. So I have the strings and am ready to go I just need to ask a few questions. Guitar strings cost about $6.00 so I don't want to risk it and screw it all up. First, I know I have to restring one at a time but I'm not 100% sure at which string to start at. The high E or low?

and when winding the string around the top, which way exactly do you wind? My ESP has sperzels so I never had to do it this way. Could somebody explain how that is done. (again, I don't want to screw up with the strings.)

And where exactly does the string go in the bridge? My friend says there are little hooks that the balls go on but others say you cut the ball end off. Could somebody explain that concept please. And also, do you stretch the strings once all the new strings are on or do you do it one string at a time?

that's all I have to ask for now I think, help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Well I've been playing guitar for about 1 year and a half but I'm completely new to floating trems.

Start from the high e string take that one off and then put the new one on. Make sure the new string has properly stretched. On the edge pro you can do both, either keep the ball and hook it up or cut it and put the end in a lock it.

dont sweat it, floating trems are a beyotch especially if you're new to them. really i'd say all it is is just practice and TONS of patience to fully tune it, but its well worth the effort. comes with the territory, right?

Just hold it and start winding the string should start getting a grip by itself.

Re: noob alert: restringing JS1200

You want to pull and put tention on the string and then start winding. Make sure its to the left, or the inside of the string holder thing too. Floating trems are a bitch to set up but I finally have my neck bow and action and the trem is flush so I don't even have to mess with it anymore. Fret buzz used to bother the **** out of me and same with the action, and that might happen to you too, but give it two months and you wont even notice if its there or if its perfectally set up. Hell, I don't even know why my guitar is in such a perfect set up. I got my epiphone cheapy les paul set up by the guitar tech from Tesla last week and he put in EMG's and definatly gave it a really nice set up, and to tell you the truth, the set up on my Charvel and S540 I did myself seems very comparable. Then again I think I have a nack for setting things up, especially since I get really anal if something isn't perfect, like if theres any fret buzz or if the action is too high etc. If you follow the directions given on this site you should be fine, but I even bought a book on how to set up guitars, and just my luck it uses the Ibanez Edge floyd on an RG, LOL. Sometimes I love life!
