I never heard anything before the interview and I didn't ask specifically about it - I just asked what he used on the CD and he came out with it.

Since conducting the interview though I've found that he mentioned it a few weeks ago too in an interview with KNAC. http://knac.com/article.asp?ArticleID=7043

KNAC.COM: Are you still an Ibanez man, exclusively…and are you still designing guitars?

SATRIANI: Absolutely. We’ve got a new one that we hope to finalize that was a prototype that I used on the record, about a third of the songs. For those guitar geeks out there, it’s a 24-fret model with two pickups and they’re slightly different, and we’re experimenting with some different woods. It did make a difference on the recording. Hopefully we’ll be able to get it all worked out within the next four weeks for it to go into production and come out around January.

The joke will be on us. Next they'll say a 22 fret JEM will be out. :P

Re: Official: New 24-fret JS on the way!

The last time I interviewed Joe he told me about the JSX 50 which nobody had ever heard of yet, and I got one of his first public statements about Chickenfoot. If I ever meet him in person instead of on the phone I'm so gonna give him a hug for giving me all this information.

Re: Official: New 24-fret JS on the way!

I've always wondered why Joe never used a 24 fret guitar.. But didn't they already design a pickup like the one they mention for the 24 fret EGEN? There's no need to move that one around in order to have it sound the way they want it? Hmmm, maybe Joe is just very demanding and doesn't want a pickup that sounds like that but that sounds exactly like that..

Anyway, this is interesting news. I sure hope they give a cool, interesting color, though. And not just some kind of white or black.

Also, if the pickup goes right into the neck I'm guessing it's direct mount...

Err, did you just say black? Don't let Ibanez hear praise you say that, they'll do it. I believe you meant white or red with chrome.

It's probably white, to go well with a black Chickenfoot logo

doubtful. i believe joe has said he feels the block neck joint contributes to the tonefulness (if that is a word) of the instrument. a sentiment echoed lately by paul gilbert.

It's funny to read everyone b1tch about the neck joint on the JS. Personally, I find it quite comfortable and makes no difference whether it's an AANJ or not.

Jimmy

P.S.: The color should be a blue of some sort IMO
