I understand he used it on a few solos on the album, but in that specific case he was definitely talking about 'My Kinda Girl.'

hmmm, i have all satch's albums and while i don't know EVERY song of his inside out, i've never come across a time when i think i've heard him use 24 frets. i've always heard him bend up to the octave on the high E.

I wish I had time to ask him about the colour too but we were in the last minute or so of the interview and I didn't want to interrupt all the stuff about the pickups and DiMarzio.

Cool thread!

Joe also talked about the new JS24 in the latest issue of Guitar Player. He also mentioned using a new prototype amp with 4 channels.

He is working on something with Marshall?

I always feel like I want 24 frets but in all honestly I don't tend to venture up there that much. Even 21 on a Strat isn't that much of a chore

Awhile back I thought about trying to mod one of my 24-fret RTs by replacing the neck hummer with a single coil and moving it closer to the neck. But to match the placement of a standard 22-fretter, you pretty much have to put the pup all the way up against the 24th fret wire, minus the overhang. That wouldn't leave anything for the fret wire to hang onto -- that is, the slot would lay right at the end of the fretboard. So if they really moved the pup right where it needs to be, they must have come up with some kind of technical solution to that problem.

One way to do it might be to have a plate that attached to the end of the neck+fretboard, with the top of the plate being of the right dimensions and arc to serve as the fret itself. But I'll bet they came up with something a bit more elegant than that.
what's your workaround for grabbing the higher notes? harmonics? i need to play a 22 fretter. i keep hearing people talk about the tone differences. i never actually paid attention before. i just like having lots of frets and strings hehe...

That oil finish 7 string mockup is niiiiiiiiiiiice!

I'd like a 6 string just like that with all black hardware. A cobalt blue color wouldn't be bad either. And as much as you guys like to bitch about black guitars, I'd like an all black JS1000 (Black Pearl is ok, but I'd like an all black one, too).

Has anyone seen a pic of this JS24 proto? Is Joe actually playing that thing live?
