Original, Lo-Pro or Edge Pro Trems

I have 1990 JS1, 2000, and 2004 model JS1000's. Comparing the three different versions of trems I know why Joe prefers the Original.
It just feels better.
The Edge Pro feels a little stiff compared to the more fluid action of the original Edge.
The Lo Pro is closer to the feel of the original but still not the same.
Anyone else compare the three and find the same result?

something to consider: maybe the edge pro feels stiffer because it is newer!

That is not the case here, I tried putting on my old springs and the trem is still stiff as ever.

I like the lo pro edge, the original edge doesn't really do it for me (simply from the looks).

Re: Original, Lo-Pro or Edge Pro Trems

I've got all three trems on my guitars(as well as the OFR). Still love the feel of the original edge, but I'm not a huge abuser of the bar and usually set my guitars with slightly more spring tension against the arming adjusters I've installed on my guitars.

But for feel, my vote goes to the Edge, but don't care if it's got an Edge Pro or Lo-Pro Edge(Lo-Pro preferred as I'm used to the design).

Re: Original, Lo-Pro or Edge Pro Trems

I agree Dave, the original edge has such a great feel, seem free floating compared to the low pro which is a bit stiffer, and the edge pro which has a whole different response all together.

The new Edge Pro seems to have a slower pitch travel than the earlyer two trems, more balanced yet not as wild.

Re: Original, Lo-Pro or Edge Pro Trems

Maybe grinding down the knife edges or changing to the redesigned locking studs (the ones used just before the Edge Pro came out) which have a better U shape would losen the Edge Pro up a bit. My RG1527 gets here soon so ill be able to find out myself lol. I have to agree though the Edge on my RG520 is very, very consistent, stays in tune, feels magnificent and is so smooth.

Re: Original, Lo-Pro or Edge Pro Trems

Hi. Anyone seen a manual on the new Edge Pro? I have just bought one for my JS1000, and would like to know the function of the red plastics?

And what's the difference between Edge pro and Edge Pro II?

Bets from Greenie.

(I agrre that it seem a bit weak on the action side)

Re: Original, Lo-Pro or Edge Pro Trems

I prefer the playability of the Edge but find the Lo Pro to be a little friendler when palm muting and especailly string changes. I use the Lo Pro personally and have yet to find any love for the Edge Pro. Hence why i keep getting older RG's. Joshua.

Well guys i got my RG1527 a month ago, and honestly i don't know what you guys are complaining about. I have found it slightly stiffer (very slightly) which IMO makes it feel more stable and smooth anyway. It has kept in tune as well or better than my RG520QS with orginal EDGE, and mine hasn't got locking studs either. Its a hell of a lot more comfortable than the orginal edge, and much better for palm muting. If you guys keep buying 2nd hand guitars just because they have the older trems, than you will put ibanez out of buisness. Just learn to adapt guys. Ive had no trouble adapting to an 7-string and an EDGE-Pro at the same time so surely you guys can.

Re: Original, Lo-Pro or Edge Pro Trems

I do, I do. Wait those 2 words got me in a lot of trouble.
But seriously. I guess every one has there own preference. As far as putting Ibanez out of business, I seriously doubt the used market would effect Ibanez in the least. The trems are different and I guess it's what you are used to. I grew up on the original Floyd Rose system so I guess I am just used to that design. The new one has it's advantages also. Like not having to cut the ball ends off. Although I still do on my Edge Pro as the windings always seem lay over the saddles. So I am cutting anyway. Minor details.
