Other Potential Source of Chrome Finishing?

Sorry if anyone brought this site up already, but they have a lot of finishing options that look like they may have some good potential.

Again, feel free to delete this if the company above has been mentioned already- I did a quick forum search for alsacorp but turned up nothing. Anyway, the ChromeFX, ChromeFX sheeting, and Mirrachrome look pretty neat. Anyone see potential here?

Hmm, the spray looks nice. It would be good to see what guys like Jeremy think of this as it mentions anyone used to using spray equiptment will find using the Chrome FX spray easy.

Not seen this before, but it looks quite good,compare to the actual chrome plating some guys offer this would seem a lot more pratical.

Just looked at the price, 3 and a half grand for 750sq.ft of the package (includes basecoat and topcoat i think).

750sq ft..seeeeshh..How many guitars is that?

I looked into this as well, and i think they'll do one-off pieces as demonstrations of their technology, but it was expensive, because they're really in the business of selling the process, not doing finished products.

I was thinking more along the lines of using the chrome sheeting to make a chrome-top jem like Steve's- that stuff isn't expensive. The only problem is that it seems to only come in 10mm thickness, which is pretty thick, but I'm not sure if thats before or after you peel of the adhesive...

The problem with chrome sheeting is that you won't be able to form it to the compound curves of the JS body shape, unless you vacuum-form it. Even then, you'll probably end up with wrinkles and will definitely have a seam somewhere on the body.

Whoa, this is for discussion of the other methods on the site too, like potential use of that really expensive paint to chrome a JS. I put it here cause' its chrome, and generally chrome goes with the JS. I'm just saying that the chrome sheeting may be better suited to the RG/JEM body shape, unless someone thinks that it would be possible to thermoform the sheeting to a JS. Feel free to move it if you really think its in the wrong section of the forum though...

by the way thats where it says its 10mm- unless mil doesn't mean mm? I dont deal with these sorts of things often so maybe I missed something.

No, a mil isn't a mm. 10 mils would be 1/4 of one mm.

1 mil = .001 inch
10 mils = .010 inch
.010 inch = .254 mm

Ah, there you go. Makes a lot more sense now. I might actually try this if I didn't have to spend $120 because of their minimum order thing. From the description it doesn't seem like fitting the flexible stuff over a RG550 body's top (yeah I know its the JS forum, sorry) would be that hard. Some of the pictures on the site make it look like you could thermoform it around the JS body shape as well, but I bet that's more complicated than it seems. And there's still those paints...
