Pickups

Hey I have a Trans Red JS100. I know everyone will probably advise me to sell it. But that is not an option for me because of sentimental value i.e first guitar I ever gigged etc etc.

So I'm wanting to upgrade it, I know that to upgrade the bridge from the TRSII to an Edge I will need to get it routed.

My real question is about replacing the pickups. I bought an RG770DX recently that only has one pickup and its a PAF Pro at the bridge, I was just wondering if I wanted to put the PAF Pro into my JS100, could I put it in the neck position? Because I think its a bridge pickup? (does this matter?) I'm also going to put a FRED into the bridge position.

The PAF Pro Should he okay in the neck Providing you keep the pickup hight down a tuch.

Obviously if you went the wholr peg and through a PAF JOE in there You get a better satch sound, but hey, it's better than nothing right?

And yeah, You'd really be better of selling the the thing unless you have some really large emotional attatchment to it........

Yeah, I'm a bit too sentimental for my own good. So do you think I shud just leave the PAF Pro in the RG and put in PAF Joe at the neck and a FRED at the bridge on my JS? Also do you have any suggestions for which pickups to put in my RG? Bearing in mind it only has 1 pickup at the moment, which is at the bridge.

Cheers

it's a matter of preference really, what are you into playing, and what kind of wood is the guitar made out of?

I'm into playing Satriani and Vai. Its a Basswood body. I was thinking of putting in evolutions which is also why I wanted to use the PAF Pro that was already in there on my JS.

Hmm aye, seems you have some good ideas in mind there.

The PAF's Sound better in mahogany bodied guitars to me, so I personally would probably go for EVOs.

That's crap lol. I PERSONALLY would go for tone zones for a darker sound lol, but yeah EVOS for the satch and Vai stuff

Seing as how you're doing up a satch guitar you're going to have some Satchabillity in the JS100

SO I'd just take that PAF-PRO out, Whack it in the JS's neck, and don't bother with a joe, you'll save some money lol , then Install some evos in your other axe for a different flavour.

Hope that helps man,
Spike.

Yeah that helps alot mate. Looks like I'm gonna have a designated Satch guitar and a designated Vai guitar! Its all good!

Thanks very much for your help!

yeah I agree, the Satch guitar is already Satch flavored (ie. it's basswood and not alder like Vai's main axe) so I'd say stick a Fred and a Paf Joe in there.

The JEM 77FP is made of basswood and has Paf pros in both neck and bridge positions.

So it would not sound too bad in your JS.

I tried Evos in my JS100, and i think it was not the best possible choice.
The didn't sound very well in split positions, and there were not enough bass frequencies for me.

Maybe you can try Tone Zone or Fred in bridge position, and paf pro or paf Joe in Neck position

The Air norton is also excellent, but I don't how it can sound in a basswood body (my RG is mahogany + flame maple top)
