Preserve the chrome of a JS10th

Everybody knows about the brittleness of the chrome finish of the JS10th which makes the guitar unplayable on stage. That's the reason why JS chromeboys stays in case.

Does somebody already thought of making a polyurethane varnish over the chrome to make the guitar playable without stress ?

Unplayable? Hardly. I've gigged with mine a dozen times and there is still not even a hairline scratch on it.

The secret? Clear static vinyl on the front and back. You can buy it online at places that make window decals, or you can usually find sheets of it at hobby shops.

Of course, making sure that you untuck your shirt on stage, and that you don't have any buttons, rivets or zippers helps too I usually put a little more thought into my wardrobe selections when taking the JS10th out, but it's more a matter of just thinking and being cautious.

probably not aesthetic but very cost efficient solution.

But what will happen the day you want to replace this
static vinyl ? Will the chrome comes with the protection ?

If it was possible, a polyurethane vernish will offer a better protection.

Actually, the static vinyl is completely clear, and is invisible from any distance over a yard or so (as long as the fingerprints are wiped from it).

It's static vinyl- the ONLY thing adhering it to the surface is static electricity, thus the name "static vinyl". There are no adhesives whatsoever. Therefore there is zero possiblility of the chrome coming off with the vinyl. I wouldn't use anything unless it was completely removable and left no marks/residue.

I don't know anybody dumb enough to use anything on a JS10th that would remove the finish, though I'm sure such a creature exists.

I know a guy that wasn't thinking too clear when he was polishing his frets without removing the neck, using masking tape, which stuck to the chrome, and the chrome stuck to it

LOL Well...$1200 is perfectly fine for a good "player".

I still wish I'd have hung onto the nice, nearly minty one I'd gotten for $800 awhile back....
