problems with JS1200

I just got an Ibanez JS1200 but it's being a bitch. I tune every string but then when I go back and play the E string as well as all the others, it's way out of tune. It's goes super flat after I tune it. and when I play the A string and I think B, it buzzes. I wanted to smash the guitar into a wall at one point but realized that would be a bad idea. Any help please.

and also, the knobs are really smooth, they fell loose to me. They dont twist that fast on my ESP, it is supposed to be like that or not?

Re: problems with JS1200

No idea about the knobs. As for the tuning, is it any different than the way strings go out of tune on any floyd bridge? It's normal for that to happen on floating trems, start with the lowest E, and tune towards the high E, leaving some space for the strings to go flat, i.e. tune each string a little sharp to allow it to go flat once you tune the other ones.

Use this link: http://www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setup/tuning.htm

Also, where exactly is the buzz? (near the nut, near the bridge, half way on the neck)

I don't know where exactly it buzzes. It just does.

and I noticed my trem angle has gone way up for some reason.

Re: problems with JS1200

Ok, the trem angle went up because you tuned your strings, tuning up pulls a string, which in turn pulls the bridge upwards.

I would advise you to read what Rich says in the link I posted, and follow it from the very beginning. To adjust the bridge angle, just take off the trem cover and tighten the two screws holding the little claw thingy, you might want to loosen the strings to do that, so that they don't snap.

Ok, before i confuse mysef - do this, step by step.

1. Loosen the strings, tighten the screws that hold the claw until the trem sinks into the body
2. Tune up, like described in the link, the bridge will rise again
3. Adjust trem angle
4. Tune up
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4

Eventually you should get the trem angle and the tuning more or less right, fine tune with the tuners on the bridge.

Now, raise the action a bit by raising the bridge a little bit, you will need some hex keys, I think, I never worked with an Edge Pro, I don't think it has locking studs so you don't have to worry about it. If the buzzing is gone, lower the bridge a bit until you hear buzzing again - it should then come from one particular spot on the neck, that would be some indication of what to do next. If you raise the bridge until the buzzing is gone, and are satisfied with the action, you can just live it at that for now.

Welcome to the world of floating trems ;-)

Im gonna be mean for a second. You obviously dont know how to tune a floyd equipped guitar. The first thing you should do and I suggest this for EVERYONE, is find a guitar teacher and or a friend at school or work who plays and uses a floyd rose on a regular basis, have them show you the ins and outs of it, dont just pay a fortune for a setup. The things are a major pain in the ass until you learn how to use them, and at that magical moment youll be in total love with the things

MikeohollicA don't worry, once your floyd's setup properly as long as you don't start using a different string gauge rest assured you'll only have to make minor adjustments in future.

^I have a feeling the 9 guage string will break easily and then I have to start the process all over.

you're 100% right. I'm trying to figure it out on my own and I've read about it in my manual and on Rich's site. I better find someone though, that's a good idea.

Re: problems with JS1200

That of course would be a good way to do it. On the other hand, as Andeluson said, it will only get easier from now on.

I've always done it myself, and it's been a royal pain at the beginning, but with time i figured the sucker out, and it realy became easy later on.

went back to tried again = no success

I think I will just take it to Long & McQuade tomorrow and get them to do a set up for me.
