I believe it's rosewood.

Re: Skunk stripe wood?
Yeah, I just read somewhere else on the internet that it's rosewood, as well.
Interesting how not all JSs seem to have the stripe. I don't think the JS2PRM has one, iirc. Makes me wonder what the reasoning behind those decisions were.

Bubinga.
Only the 92'/93's and BDG's don't have the skunk.

Re: Skunk stripe wood?
I've never seen an official spec for what it is. I look at some of it, I could buy walnut. I look at some, I'd think lighter bubinga.

Re: Skunk stripe wood?
Hey Rich, you own some JSs from 1992 and 1993, right? Do you notice any warping in the necks?

Re: Skunk stripe wood?
Non stripe means they changed the truss rout to a straight rout under the fretboard, like a JEM. The stripe is just a fillet and nothing else.

I assume this is the same as on a Fender....just a fillet ?...either way I have sometimes wondered myself what woods were used as the skunk stripe.

Re: Skunk stripe wood?
Check this out:

That's kind of interesting, isn't it?
Anyway, I thought because Joe uses the whammy all the time (and quite intensively) the skunk was there to prevent warping. But it's a 'fillet' you say? I don't see why you can't have a Strat-like truss rod without the strip, really. What am I missing, guys?

. Reason: Moved the skunk around. Typo (Strat like truss rod).
