Red face

Thinking of drilling and routing my JS1000 BTB

Am a bit nervous but it is out of necessity. I bought a js1000 so I wouldnt have to do anything to my js10 (obviously). I just love the feel and sound of these guitars that i may just have to butcher my axe (a little).

I use a synth as part of my band's setup to back up my keyboard player's already busy 2 hands. We have two guitarists also. I've bought an edge pro with piezo's in it. I also have the internal GK setup. But i will have to drill another socket for the GK 13pin plug. Also holes for the up/down buttons. I don't want extra fuss on the body of the guitar so I'm planning to do away with the tone control (i don't use it often at all). The MIDI volume will go there.

That leaves the problem of the coil tap - I might just use the push pull on the volume knob and leave the high pass on permanent (i rarely have it switched off).

But it doesnt end there - I'm hoping to send it off to simscustom in the uk for a paint job and fret lights... Lights can be activated via a pushpull on the MIDI's volume.

They're also gonna put a vine of life inlay on the fretboard too...

Am I mad? Completely round the twist? I just want the right guitar for me - and a few bells and whistles while i'm at it. It would be a good investment and a unique, sexy, good sounding guitar that would fulfill my needs with my band.

Have i overlooked anything? Would removing the tone pot completely have any adverse effect on sound?

I would try and find a real cheap used JS100 if you're going to replace the bridge and repaint it.

hack it up.. Not everything should be incased in a vault..

Its yours, modifying a guitar is what makes it special to you and you only. How many guitars that are historical have been modded? Exactly, players mod there guitars to suit them

GO FOR IT, and if anything make a tutorial..

I hate when people say ohhh god no dont destroy it, or boooo your going to mod a guitar.. I love modding them. Its fun and it gives you something no one else will have a Piezo equipped JS

I tend to agree, but in this case, the BTB had some extra care put into the finish. Also there are plenty of lightly used JS1000's out there in Black Pearl, which is sort of a boring color anyway. So I'd say if you're going to paint and drill one, start with the more common BP instead of the BTB. Heck, I'll bet someone would even love to trade their BP for the BTB and they'd pay shipping both ways.

I think you should do whatever you want to the guitar, but my advice is to find a guitar that will be less missed, if that makes sense.

I'd send you a Radius body for the BTB in a heartbeat. And I've got some that could really use a refin!

The piezo elements in the GK edge pro are SOFT - don't be suprised if, when it's all together, you start getting tuning problems after a couple of weeks playing. The strings wear grooves into the saddles fast from whammy use. I got around the problem using saddle singer inserts (which don't affect synth tracking).

Sorry if you are already aware of this potential problem.

If i were you i'd go ahead with the modification of your JS1k.

Cheers

Totally agree with you!
It's not like there's a limited number of BSB around and when it's finished it will be unique.
I would personally just go for the LED's on the fretboard rather than the vine as well. I think that could be a bit too much, but then it's your guitar so i'll shut up,lol.
Be nice to see the pics when it's finished.

I always though it would be nice to have a JS re-finished in the LNG bright green with a matching headstock and a black Ibanez decal, dye the fretboard black (or ideally have it replaced with an ebony one)and have green LED's installed in the fretboard.
That would look amazing!
