Top of the range!

Just had a look at the Ibanez web site. I'm not really a trem fan, so was suprised to see that he most expensive JS is the only one with no trem!!

Yes it does have a mahogany body, but for THAT much! Can't get my head round the marketing there!

Very nice though!

The most expensive JS? The 1000 is still more expensive than the 1600 by a couple of hundred bucks.

Gibsons don't have trems (mostly). Fender doesn't have floating trems. Go figure.

If they called that a jem55eafx or whatever and had it cost about $2000 it would be more fair. A little off topic...

Apart form the cheaper Korean JS, they are all made in Japan (though nothing wrong with that, frankly they're better than most US instruments in my opinion), they have the same bodies and necks, therefore similar machining costs; the principle difference is that the one I'm refering to does not have a trem; now, on the perfectly reasonable assumption that trems are more expensive than fixed bridges......YOU GO FIGURE!!

Comparing US instrments, (high labour costs) with eastern instruments (lower labour costs) is not not comparing like with like, IS IT? Comparing vertually the same guitar, from the same manufacturer, made in the same location, one with an expensive add-on, IS however!

What kind of an idiot thinks non-trem guitars must be more expensive just because a couple of historically important US manufacturers make expensive guitars that, in the main, don't have trems?? YOU obviously!

Fender has models with floating trem, not many, but there are a few.

Re: Top of the range!

I guess we need to know where you live because here in the USA the JS 1600 is a bit cheaper than either the JS 1000 or JS 1200 (the two MIJ trem models). Granted there isn't much of a price drop; I guess the mahogany body is a bit of a premium over the basswood, plus the Planet Waves tuners are about twice the cost of the regular Gotoh tuners.

USA List Prices (not street prices):

JS 1600: $2,266
JS 1000: $2,333
JS 1200: $2,400

EDIT: Of course you could also be comparing the 2009 price on the JS 1600 to the 2008 price on a JS 1200 or JS 1000 if your comparing unsold stock to one just arrived. Like just about everyone Ibanez had a price increase this year.

I think only Epiphone has ONE model with a floating tremolo. I may be wrong however.

It has a whole ONE model with a floating trem. I've never seen any current fenders with floating trems.
