What's the coiltap for?

I've tried for a long time now to figure out exactly what the coil-tap does! But I'm not sure! So if anyone knows what it does, I'd be happy! I have a JS 10th.

The coil tap shuts off the inner coil on the humbuckers.

Try the other bucker, I don't know if it works on both. I should know, but those are things I never use so I'm as clueless as the next.

It should be splitting both humbuckers at once. The other push-pull is for the capacitor on the volume that maintains the highs when the volume is rolled back.
Tapping on the poles would still be picked up 'sympathetically' from the other coil. It could be that. However, there's quite a large difference in the sound of the active coil's tapping, and the inactive one.

Maybe you're pulling the /other/ knob, the one for the volume capacitor, instead of the coil-tap.
Just a couple of thoughts.

FWIW, the volume capacitor actually removes some bass, rather than boosting the high. Effect is the same though.
