? about RG520's

I would really like to buy a 520QS and they seem like a great deal, but some people list them on ebay as just RG520. Are all 520's QS or do they make different 520 models? and are they all mahogany bodies? Thanks for the info.

Yes, there were standard RG520's (with basswood bodies and no sapele tops), though if I remember correctly they only made them in 1998. They were available in a matte finish called grey pewter; they are pretty easy to distinguish from the QS models and are rarely ever on ebay.

The 52o in grey pewter is actually kind of rare. but I tend to think it sounds way better than the 570 due to more wood mass, but otherwise these are identical guitars.

The 520 is like a 570 but without the middle pickup, yeah? A local music store had one of the very last ones a few months ago but when I went back to buy it a few weeks after I played it it was gone That's okay, I'd already bought two RGs that week.

Ahh

I've got one of each...
Here's my RG520 in grey pewter

Ibanez RG520GN (I thought they were called Grey Nickle??)

Ibanez RG520QSTB

As far as I know, the QS's were available in 3 colors, red - blue - brown?
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

(Damn I'm jealous)

I'd like one of each as well, but prefer the QS for the mahogany body.

I believe you're right on the color count, but I think it was actually a trans black instead of brown, though in the end it looked brown anyway.

I've been trying to buy one from ebay, but they see to be going for more than I expected.

You'd hate me if I told you I picked up the RG520GN off eBay a couple months ago for $173, wouldn't you??

JiMoSiTY, awsome deal! So how do the two compare? Does the body wood make much difference in sound? Everything else seems to be the same.

SOUND/FEEL

Well, actually, they both have EMGs in them, so they sound identical, you can't tell any difference in tone.
These are my main two players, the QSTB is in normal tuning and the GN is in drop-D.
These are my main babies now.
Both have 81's in the bridge and 85's in the neck.

Wow, Edges look really cool in chrome...

And grey nickel is a lot shinier than pewter. The RG570's used to always be in grey nickel, maybe that's what you're thinking about?

And Ibanez really needs to ditch the, as I like to call it, 'earth tones'. All these browns and blacks and grays all over the place! More jewel blues and transparent reds!

the qstb 520 as shown is powder coated, not chrome, but its possible the regular 520 is chrome

All of the RG520GP's came with cosmo chrome hardware, as did the pre-2000 RG520QS's. Also, there was another color available for the 520QS, it was the OL (stained oil) finish.

Jim,

You are right. I would hate you. I assume that guitar you got was shipping only to the US, because otherwise I would have seen it.

Cheers
