1987 Pro540 Custom Guitar

I've been updating my 540R webpage recently and picked up on something.

If you watch ebay for 540 Radius guitars you'll have no doubt seen the one from Germany that is plastered with little labels and magazine clippings. It's been on and off for sale for a couple of years it seems. No one wants it because it's listed at over $1,400.00. I would see it up for sale again and think, "poor sucker thinks its special because he glued clippings all over it. 14 hundred? yeah, right." It's a completed auction now: 120805953448

So anyway, I added a great poster from 1987 of 80 custom graphic early 540R guitars. The guitars were given to artists (Japanese only?) to do whatever they wanted with them creatively. Then Ibanez got them back and sold them. On the poster, you can click on the small image and a larger image of that guitar appears. This poster is from www.ibanezregister.com if you've ever been there.

Check this out:
on the left, guitar from the bottom row of the Pro540 Custom poster.
on the right, the ebay guitar in Germany.

Now ain't that a kick in the head?

Good detective work, Ashbass. That thing has actually popped up intermittently for the last 5-7 years. I always thought it was hideous. Still do, but at least it seems to have a pedigree.

I remember seeing this auction a few years ago and it was listed at under £400. Didnt think much of it, other than it looked a mess.

Well it *does* have a Quiet Riot album cover represented. I think that the short-haired chick near the rear strap button is Sheena Easton. Or maybe Tina Turner. Hmm

Hi ashbass, here's some more information on that poster. Recently I got an original print and I am fascinated with the guitars. The poster dates to 1987 but the guitars were intended to be sold in 1988 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Hoshino Gakki. It was the president himself, Joe Hoshino, who invited Japanese artists from within and outside the company to create unique designs for the Pro540 range of guitars, including all three types, namely Radius, Saber and Power. Mr. Hoshino also came up with a couple of designs. Many of the artists were members of the Nagoya Illustrators Club, an association that is still active today. The Frankfurt Musikmesse trade show in the year 1988 featured a huge Ibanez booth with a guitar display shaped like a pyramid that held a total of 40 of these custom guitars. CF84 also was there so it stayed in Germany for all these years.

Apparently CF84 is no longer floating in the *bay. It must have made its way to the U.S.

It's still on ebay at a much reduced price.

Oops, I was thinking of CF3. It is my favorite paint job.

So CF84 is in Wisconsin. Too much money for a beater of a guitar IMO. I also don't think that it it especially good looking.

How about this one
