Before:
I always wanted this guitar, never liked the middle pup though, so when I finally got one, and realized after plugging it in that guy I traded my Edwards Les Paul to for this had ripped me off on the pups (the pups in the before pic were atrocious sounding and weak), I went all out. I wanted to give this guitar a really beat up, ugly look, with multi colors and what have you.
After:
The empty cavity was inspired by Eddie Van Halen, and there is obviously some color scheme inspiration from the look of some of Vai's guitars.
Those are Dimarzio Breed pups in there... Awesome pups, I was looking at putting Duncan's in, I generally don't care for the sound of Dimarzio's and love Duncan's, but someone at another forum I regularly post on highly recommended them to me when I asked about them, saying they were basically designed for RG's to tighten the mids and lows to give a little more of a vintage tone to them per Vai's request... That's exactly what I was looking for, and they rock.
