199x series RG 570 - can't find it in catalogs!

Hey guys,

I was just reminiscing by going through the old Ibanez catalogs on Rich's website and I found something strange.

My 570 doesn't appear to be in any catalogs. The only ones it appears in 91, 92 show it as having an Edge bridge, and all black hardware.

I bought my 570 from a store sometime in the 90's off a rack. It was my first Ibanez. Anyway, I thought it was original. But maybe it isn't? Or maybe it was some weird Aussie/Asia-Pacific model?

Mine has all gold hardware and a lo-pro Edge bridge.

serial: F318631

91 catalog RG link: http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1991/rg5.jpg
92 catalog RG link: http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1992/rg5_2.jpg
93 = no RG570

This has me stumped and curious. Did someone, somewhere change the hardware on my guitar before I bought it?

Ok, just re-read the thing on how to read the serial number on Rich's website, and that says the 3 after the F means it was made in 1993. But why isn't it in any catalogs?

Also, I've checked the Ibanez register. I'm one of a handful of others that have posted an RG570FMTR up. The others all have black hardware.

...maybe I'm just reading a conspiracy into this whole thing cause I'm bored. Anyway, I'm still intrigued.

Believe the catalogs were mostly "what is in the US" rather than "what is in the world". The FM's were not US models. Only my guess to add to the conspiracy.

That's could be true, although I have a '93 and a '95 catalog here that match the ones on Rich's site. :\

Ooh, that reminds me, the 570FM returned in 95 with gold hardware! Just not in red, and without the ugly pickup rings.

Hmm, another conspiracy. I somehow managed to spell "catalogs" wrong in the title, yet have spelt it correctly everywhere else.

Hummm...

I don't think anyone would go into that massive hardware change: notice that the tremolo, the knobs, the nut and the tuners have been changed!
Would anyone in his perfect sense change all these pieces of hardware just because of the colour? I don't think so... I wouldn't! Too expensive...

Anyways, that is a d*mn beautiful axe! Congratulations!!!

There were some limited editions that do not make it to the catalog... store exclusive special runs etc. One of those was RG 570's wiht gold gardware. I have seeln those in trans blue, amber & red. I believe GC was the store that did those.

I wouldn't go to that much trouble either. But what if the store had some spare hardware lying around, and they were having trouble moving this particular guitar?

Bare with me here.

So one day the manager/owner decided to "update" this particular guitar because no one was interested in it, and he'd had it for a bit too long. When he went looking for parts, there was a package that had a gold lo-pro edge and all the hardware to match in it. But this package was mislabeled, and they didn't know what to do with it....

So in his infinite wisdom, he had one of his guitar people swap all the black hardware for the gold, and in the process update the guitar from an Edge to a Lo-pro Edge.

Then one day, unsuspecting-teenage, pimple faced me shows up looking at Jems and finds this RG570 sitting in the corner and spies the price. OMG something I could afford in under month if I put all my savings towards it!

....the end. LOL

Interesting! I wonder if mine is one of these GC limited editions, and how it came to be in Australia.

Re: 199x series RG 570 - can't find it in catalogues!

That guitar is somewhat similar to the RG570CT that appears in the 1995 catalogs (p. 15-16). Only blue and amber are mentioned as available colors, though. They had gold hardware. Those guitars also had alder bodies, which was very unusual in the RG line.

That was when they re-released them. Similar, but different. Direct mount pickups and no pickup rings, and the colour isn't a burst.
