1st post = NGD! 1991 540R HH

Just got what I thought was a pretty good deal on this. This is my first Ibanez guitar and it's in amazing shape considering it's 20 years old! One small pinhead size ding on the front. The plate on the neck is from Hollywood, CA.

I'm thinking I may want to replace the bridge pickup with something a little more suited for more extreme styles of metal.

I hope to learn a lot more about this guitar and Ibanez guitars in general. I think I'm in the right place!

Dude you've got an awesome guitar. Hang on to it, the 540R's are amazing and great to play. I just bought an '87 540R and love the piss out of it. In a week's time it's pretty much taken over as my main axe.

Re: 1st post = NGD! 1991 540R HH

Thanks for the comments!

Can someone tell me how this old 540R is much different than this JS1200 that retails for close to $2000?!?

(oops - link to the JS1200 not working, I'm too newb here)

They look pretty similar on paper with the exception of the pickups. If that's about it, I really do think I got a smokin' deal on this!

hmmm... you will get crucified if you take that question to the JS forum.....

headstock on R is angled back, on JS it is straight.
JS has neutered horns, whereas the radius horns are longer.
JS costs alot. radius are cheaper.
the necks are slightly different
the frets are different js has 6105 frets, i think radius are jumbo's
IMHO i think the differences are slight but..... over at the js forum they think that the differences are huge.

i am sure there are other slight variances....

I would never buy a JS but I like the Radius-models. Your guitar looks really sweet

Re: 1st post = NGD! 1991 540R HH

Thanks for that information Scott. I do like the neck on the Radius but the frets seem a little small compared to what I'm used to. I noticed that when lowering the action a bit, I'm getting some fret buzz on the low E and A strings above the 12th fret. Maybe a truss rod adjustment is needed. Since I plan to keep this one around for a long time, I may get it up to a shop and have a pro give it a once-over.
