Re: 2 questions
i have an s520 that had a hum problem, there were 3 things that was causing this, the first was i was sitting too close to my pc monitor, the second was the use of cheap low quality leads next to the electrical mains, and the third was due to poor wiring of the jack, there can be many faults that result in hum, although its not uncommon to hear a hissing aswell, thats quite normal.
a poorly wired circuit would be something thats not soldered properly, although that doesnt directly relate to the hum, what might cause this is having non shielded circuitry in close proximity. for instance if you accidentally touched the outside rubber shell of the wire with the solder then it might cause hum, it might be a good idea to make sure that the end of the wire isn't frayed and is properly tapped together, otherwise it might be interfering with other wires in close proximity. Your earth wire might not be wired correctly, if this is true then the buzzing noise will stop if you touch the strings. although this isn't a common problem
if you are familiar with short circuits then having wires in close proximity is sort of the same thing, obviously its not touching and completing the circuit but it does have an electrical magnetic field which results in the hum. at least i think thats the case, dont quote me on that though LOL
