20th Anniversary RG550?

Seeing as next year will be the 20th anniversary of the RG550, what do you think the chances are of Ibanez reissuing this model?

Re: 20th Anniversary RG550?

Doubtful if you ask me. They could, but it's a long shot. Personally, I would like to see a hardtail version of the 550. Maple board, and original Wizard profile.

If they do reissue it, and it doesn't have the original Edge or Lo Pro, (which it won't) I don't particularly want anything to do with it anyway. --Jason

Next to none. They deemed it unnecessary to have the *570 and *550 co existing, hence why there is a RG1570 and no RG1550 anymore.

It would be really nice if they did a Reissue of it, but like "jkahrs" said..........I don´t want anything to do with it, if it dosent have the Edge or Lo-Pro and the same old Wizard profile !!

I'm pretty sure they did a reissue for the 10th anniversary, so I think it's a possibility.

Plus they weren`t prestige models but made in Japan......so if they reissued them, where would they make them at? Japan? Nothing coming out of Japan unless its a Prestige!

Re: 20th Anniversary RG550?

remember when they did that RG550DY (desert sun yellow) reissue a few years ago.... didn't go over so well.

the RG doesn't have a bunch of zealots buying them like JEMs to warranty an annniversary model. that said a small run would be good. i'd imagine they'd have to get GREAT dealer feedback (who are committed to purchasing) before doing such a thing... glen

Well, they are coming out with a 20th Jem.

Why not a 550??? It's prolly the most popular Ibanez (price range and all)

I think it would be a great move by the big "I"

Not all of us can afford a $ 5,000 Jem

That's rich coming from some-one who has a zillion jems!!!
(posted with extreme jealousy )

Anniversary models seem to be generally reserved for signature/top end guitars. Can't see them bothering to do it for the good ol' RG IMO.Shame coz it would make lots of people here very very happy!

For as good as they play (or did) I consider the 550 a top end model

How bout a 550 prestige 20th w/maple board and Lo Pro

Chimes in that old song "Dreamer"

Yeah, but it's what Ibanez thinks though! To them it was probably just a regular production guitar. We see guitars with love and affection, they see them as money in the bank!!

By the way,i hope your new jemsite job isn't in any way going to affect/delay jems in paradise 2? The wait is killing me as it is!!!

Sorry, with all the money I'm making from this job, it seems I don't have time anymore for photoshoots, let alone trimming the trees, etc

And that's the point I keep on making -- they would sell tons of the buggers if they reisssued them! Looking at certain auction sites, the old 550's are getting huge amounts of bids, even ones in bad condition.

Plus there's so much talk on forums nowadays about how bland the current Ibanez range is. So... if they want even more money in the bank, get the old colours back and reisssue the 550 and neon Jems. They'd make a fortune. Sorry to say but I don't find any of the newer models desirable. Haven't seen any good ones in years.

Anyway. [/rant]

RG550 in Desert Yellow, Road Flare Red, and what the heck, a Loch Ness Green one, please Mr. Ibanez. They would SELL. Even re-release them with updated specs, AANJ, etc!

Re: 20th Anniversary RG550?

On th 15th anny they re-issued the 550 and 570 for the Japanese market in some of the original finishes. It's entirely possible of a 20th, but will we see any here?
