520qs hardware differences
What color is the off gray 520qs hardware called? I cant find any info anywhere. Most the 520's Ive seen are chrome, or smoke chrome, but mine is a completely different color. And how come some of the 520
pickup rings
are black and some vice versa?

I've forgotten what was on the 520, but if it's grey it's either cosmo [which looks like black chrome] or powder coat [which doesn't look plated]

But they don't specify hardware color, and I can't tell looking at the original catalog

The evil bay one appears to be the rarer one. The catalog photos are the chrome ones Ive played with black pickup rings. Thanks for the help guys. Is there anything specific I should do to keep powder coat hardware from tarnishing?

It's a very durable finish, but like any hardware, keep it clean.

If it is powder coated like my bikes, it would take no special care other than wiping it down. Powder coat doesn't tarnish. It can wear over a looooong period of time, but nothing like gold or chrome (not nickel
) plating. It shouldn't pimple up either.

Well a corner of my
pickup ring
has worn and right in the pickup spot. i ALWAYS wipe it down though. But i fear Im overwiping. But oh well. The more dinged up guitars feel the more relaxed I am when I play them. Does anyone else have that syndrome? Like when you morgage your house to buy a guitar )(well maybe not my 520 but my rg custom :P ) do you feel bad playin it?

I've had three of these and they were all cosmo...maybe they switched to powder the last year?...or was that the Mars issues?

See thats where I differ. I think the powder coat are the oldest ones, because all of the other ones, had the odd serial number logo on the back, and they were the new ones, where the metal ibanez logo on the front looked to be almost blue itself. Would you be referring to mars music?
