Re: 540R HSH pick hitting single

You are one lucky dude my friend. I don't know where you happened apon this guitar, but they are pretty rare. I have never seen another in person other than the one I own. I am always on the lookout for these because I love 'em!! I have yet to see another 540RLTD for sale anywhere, and I have looked plenty. I know most people don't think their that valuable but I wouldn't part with mine for anything! I have a number of R540's, but only one LTD. By the way, none of them have stock pups in them. My LTD has EVO's and a dimarzio dual rail in the middle. They sound superb! What color is yours? I'd love to see a pic too.

This one is not leaving ever. Solid, solid guitar and gorgeous. The Jewel Blue looks blue in some light but almost purple in others.

Thanks man, I love her.

Here ya go!!!!!!!!!!!

ps, there is a Ruby Red LTD on **** right now.

Superb!!! You were not kidding about it being mint! I have a jewel too, but it's a dot inlay non-bound neck HSS. I'm going to hug mine when I get home!

Sharp, sharp, sharp!! You weren't kidding about it being mint! I'm green all over. Makes me wanna go home and hug mine. I checked the e-bay one and it's an S series. No where near as nice as the R's. Like I said, very rare! Not to be nosey, but the trem looks a little high-(ok, alot high) IMO. Great catch.

Re: 540R HSH pick hitting single

I am having the same problem with my RG. Is there any way to remove the PUP and install some sort of a "blank" to fill the cavity and then refinish it? Can I get one off the shelf anywhere? I dunno if my picking is the problem, but it's possible. And i was also wanting to remove the PUP rings. But how would i mount the PUPS? I once read an interview with his Majesty John Petrucci, saying that the rings and center pickup was a technical impairment, I seem to be on the same wave length. I am strapped for cash so buying a new guitar is not an option at this time.

Re: 540R HSH pick hitting single

Let me see if I am getting this, when you try to strum or pick the pick itself hits the pole pieces and gets hungup a bit on the center pup? I have never seen a blank you could install to fill the cavity and I know if you uninstall the middle pup, you will have to get a three way selector instead of a five way. I've never had this problem, and that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but it seems you might be heavy handing it a bit if your pick is digging that deep.

Just get an H-H pickguard. Remove the middle pup and the pickguard will cover the gap. That way you don't need the rings and the middle pickup is gone in an aesthetically pleasing manner!

I didn't see ibanezRG79 mentioning a 540R in particular...Just an RG. My post wasn't ment for the OP. Finding a pickguard for a radius seems kinda awkward...

Re: 540R HSH pick hitting single

Sorry, I can't see giving up the variety and options by getting rid of the middle pup. Mixing it with the bridge pup is one of my favorite settings.

Re: 540R HSH pick hitting single

Sorry, let me clarify a little. I have an RG5EX1, its my first Ibanez. It seems to have a perfectly flat body, so the pick guard idea may work. where could I get one for that model? How would that guitar be rated. I know its no Prestige, or a JPM100, but the neck is the best I have every played. It almost plays itself.
