540R with a rusted edge

I'm looking at buying an Ibanez 540R from a local seller, and the only reason I haven't already picked it up is that the fine tuners on the edge tremolo unit that is equipped on the guitar are rusted.

How easy is this to fix, and can I find the parts I need to fix it anywhere?

Yellowshirt,
Those are great guitars and if you can get one for a reasonable price (say $400 or less), you'll be happy. They sell in the auctions for anywhere from $300 up to $600, depending on features and condition.

The rusted trem parts are common and everything usually works fine despite the rust. Sometimes simply wiping them down with a lightly oiled rag and then a clean cloth is sufficient. On other ones, I've had to disassemble the whole deal and soak/clean each part individually. Edge trems have some teeny parts so you have to pay attention, but it's not difficult. Maybe take a few pics as you go along so you can remember how to reassemble and get the intonation back close to where it belongs.

Cheers,
Bert

Alright, I've decided not to buy it. If any of you are interested here it is.

I live about 300 miles away and just didn't care for driving that far for a guitar that I didn't know if it was mint condition. He said the bridge pickup does not work and in the pic he sent me the tremolo has a bit of rust.

Here is the the best pic that I was sent

Re: 540R with a rusted edge

oh so tempting..... but i would probably rip it apart and part out some of the pieces, then use it for a template to build a custom radius..... oh so tempting.... but it seems a shame to part out such an awesome guitar. the radius series are my favorite...
