"6 extra steps" on Prestige necks?
Sorry for the haziness...I saw this in the 2000 catalog p. 4 and in the white catalog (98?) p. 14.
It says prestige necks get "six extra steps of hand finishing." *In these catalogs it states this on the page with the RG3120. *

I am not sure of that but will check around. I missed that "six-steps" catalog blurb but did notice the prestige neck logo spread across many models in the new catalog. I know the Prestige necks ARE of higher quality (better feel for sure, and better made) but cannot speculate what the "6-steps" are :biggrin ...glen

I'm guessing it's an extra-fine sanding, maybe a very light sealer coat, then perhaps two coats of
tung oil
with hand-rubbing in between. There's your six steps.

"6 extra steps" on Prestige necks?
I notice some difference. *but necessarily enough to merit the extra price sometimes. *It seems like they add 6 extra steps to the price tag. *I mean the difference between the 520 and the 3120 is noticeable, but not for the money. *Anyone else follow me here?

You get alot more with the 3120 than just the 6 extra steps on the neck. Real DiMarzios, a 4 mm top instead of veneer, and better fit and finish since they are made in the J
Custom shop
. For the extra money, I think they're well worth the diference. (take that with a huge grain of salt since I don't particularly like any RG's to begin with

"6 extra steps" on Prestige necks?
I must admit, my post directly above was written in a foul mood. *In retrospect, after playing the new 3120 in Trans. red, I'd pay the extra cash for the red one, but the blue ones are so murky, I'm not sure the extra 4mm cap would do me any good.

The 4mm cap just means there's enough maple there to brighten up the mahogony. Actually I think the reds are a little murky, the blues always looked pretty crisp to me. I need my eyes checked anyway.
