A Couple Questions
Hi, I'm new to the site, and I have a few questions.
But first, let me state that I am left handed, and after a few months of "jamming" on an old acoustic, i decided to get serious. I found a left handed rg body on the bay a few months ago, and since then bought a neck, and electronics.
I still need a trem, tuners, pickups, pick guard , and nut. I am trying to buy the highest quality parts so i can have a guitar that will last me a long time. So here come the questions:
For the pickups, should I go straight ahead and go with dimazios, or just go with some these gfs pickups:
http://store.guitarfetish.com/gfscrourhoov.html
Keep in mind I will probably be playing through a marshal half stack, because my sister's boyfriend wants to sell his.
For the pick guard, do you guys think of the quality of the monster guitar shop ones are good, or should I pay the extra 50 bucks for a pick guard paradise one?
Will any
Gotoh tuners
fit my Ibanez neck? BTW, its a 92 model.
And now it comes down to the trem. I am still deciding whether I want a edge or lo pro. I have no way to try out them, because I am left handed, and no guitar shops have older models. Can you guys give me the ups and downs?
Also, I am going to get a trem kit from Ibanez Rules, and I am wondering if it includes the nut, like in this picture from an
Ibanez catalog
, or if I have to buy it separately.
If I do have to buy a separate nut, I noticed Rich only has lefty nuts in cosmo, but my hardware is going to be black. Should I go with the cosmo nut, or convert a black righty nut to lefy. Will there be any problems if the e,b, and g strings have wider slots?
Sorry for the long post.

Re: A Couple Questions
welcome to the site!
Email rich and Im sure he will tell you all you want to know about the edge kits. The edge and lo pro work prety much the same so just choose which ever one looks cooler to you.
You should be able to find some original ibanez gotoh tuners on evilbay. Definately go dimarzio if you can afford it.

+1
I'm pretty sure too that Gotoh tuners will fit.
As for the dimarzio of gfs question, it's really up to your taste (an ears!) what to choose (I choose dimarzio, but other guys might say
seymour duncan
etc.)
Good luck with the mods!

Sorry for the long post.
You can't convert a righty nut to a lefty. But you can get the nut you want from allparts.com (lefty).

Sorry, when i mean convert the nut, I mean I will grind the e,b, and g slots wider with a dremel so they will fit the d, a, and e strings. My only concern is the huge slot for the e and b strings

That will be problem with the wider slot for the e and b string. Hence get a new nut from allparts or guitarsdepot (or whatever it is called) in the color you want.

Re: A Couple Questions
Do you think I should go with one of
these
, or get a Cosmo nut from Rich. Do you know if there is any difference in quality between the two nuts because the ones from Rich cost 40 dollars more?

I don't know on the quality of these but I think they should be fine. The nuts from Rich cost more because they original Ibanez parts
. If you are unsure then get OFR nuts.

Re: A Couple Questions
I would just get it all from Rich because A, he is going to be incredibly helpful as you progress, and B, you will get everything in the mail all at once and be ready to begin.

Re: A Couple Questions
Lefty Ibanez parts are not pick and choose, they're "I'll take whatever I can get". I have a nut, tuners, and trem bars, and that's it.

I know, I'm going to do the lefty conversion on the trem. Also, would I be able to order a right handed trem with a left handed bar?

An R trem would have to have the
arm holder
drilled and tapped to move to L side.

Re: A Couple Questions
Thanks for all the info guys.
What do you think of the Monster Guitar Shop pickguards compared to the
Pickguard Paradise
ones? Do you think they are worth the extra $50?
Also, I need
neck screws
for a neck joint that uses a plate, and I want to know if I can use screws for an aanj, of if I should get them somewhere else.
