A little help. Question about S and SA series bridges.

I'm going to copy and paste a thread I had at the Seymour Duncan forums:

I tried this model today at the local shop and it was pretty awesome and I think one of the comfiest guitars I've ever played. Killer flame top in person. It's part of the S series.

I had my eye on a Satriani 1000 model or something like that with a Floyd. I was just curious if anyone knew about the bridges on the SA series. Since I had my eyes set on a Floyd, these guitars are basically identical.
Any of these could be used as an examlpe.

I need to know about the ZR bridge. What kind of Floyd is that and does anyone know much about them? I could assume that they're not as good as an edge pro because of the price gap. If they're good I might want to get one of them. Maybe I'll just try and haggle for the one in the store since it could be a real standout one. These are all Korean and as far as I'm concerned, it played better than anything there.

That was what I posted. Anyway now I see that there's the SAT pro bridge and SAT 30S bridge. Does anyone know the differences? I just want to make sure because I hate crap bridges. Check the bridges out here. http://www.ibanezrules.com/namm/2005/sa_gsa_sz_gsz.htm

the SA series is NOT part of the S-series. it's an S-series derivative, differing by the flat back body (S-series sports a curved back) & non-locking bridge (most models).

Re: A little help. Question about S and SA series bridges.

presta,

I own a SA1260 with the SAT pro, and I've tried the SAT in the stores extensively. The SAT and SAT pro are both solid, well designed bridges. Both have saddles that lock down to the bridge plate (the SAT pro does it with springs) for better tone and stability. They are both simple effective bridges that work very well, and are easy to set up. They have very smooth organic shapes, so they won't dig into your hand. And they have slip in arms with adjustable tension, so you can set the arm to stay in place, or to dangle. The SAT Pro is a higher end piece of hardware, but I was very impressed with the quality of the SAT (and the SA160), considering the low price.

Re: A little help. Question about S and SA series bridges.

I have an SA160, and it has an SAT30 tremolo bridge. Very stable, but I wish Ibanez offered it in black. The only option I can think of is to have it powder coated or chromed, but I'm wary about it.
It's easy to change strings on, and seems to stay in tune pretty well for a non-locking tremolo. They're similiar to some Wilkinson models, but I think the string spacing is just a tad different.

Is it the matte chrome finish you don't like? Incedentilly, one thing you can do to greatly improve the tuning stability with this type of bridge is to install locking tuners and oil your nut (I use tri-flow). I did this with my SA1260 and it was a big improvement.
