A Rare Meeting

So tonight Behold The Arctopus happened to be playing in my town. Those of you that are familiar with the RG 565/565R/565 Prototype will recall that their guitarist has one in yellow.

I swung down to the club earlier this evening to meet with him, and show him my red 565R! He was jazzed to see mine, but not as jazzed as I was to see his. It was freakin' weird seeing another one! The necks feel identical. His plays a little better, and his frets are in better shape. Heck, his whole guitar is in better shape than mine.

It was was the 3rd 565R that I've seen in person. Mine that I got on **** a few years ago, this guys, and the one that I saw in a pawn shop that fateful afternoon that jump started my obsession with it.

He doesn't play his 565R much anymore these days, as he has a custom RG that Ibanez made for him, which shares some similar features with the 565R.

Unfortunately, no one had a camera handy, so we couldn't get a shot of all this rare reverse headstock madness.

I went back later to check out their set. Crazy music. I think like it, but only in small doses. I can't see myself driving along to it or chilling out to them!

For more information check out www.myspace.com/beholdthearctopus

Anyways, just thought I'd share my experience with those that fancy the mythical RG 565R

Their music makes absolutely no sense. I still can't figure out if they can actually play or just hitting random notes over and over.

Re: A Rare Meeting

They can play, oh yes. Those crappy You Tube videos are NOTHING like what they're like live. Rush meets King Crimson meets Opeth? It's the ultimate technical indulgence, for the pure sake of technical indulgence.

People can sit there any that it lacks "soul", but they're not after "soul". It seems like they purposely avoid it and just see how complex they can possibly get.

Re: A Rare Meeting

Very cool, mike is a great guy, I had emailed him before I found my yellow 565R,
and he was amazed that the had such a rare piece, but he did tell me that his had gotten a lot of play and was a bit worn.

I will find a red one someday, it is one of the last ones I need to track down.

I would have liked to have seen a photo of the two of them...
