A slight problem.
I'm getting my Ibanez S470 done up, like a brand new guitar.
I'm getting a neck made by Jaden. The body painted desert yellow and a new set of DiMarzios for her (Evo neck, Blue Velvet in the middle (not sure whether the bridge or neck model would be better), and either a Tone Zone (this one is the highest in my list), an X2n or a
Super Distortion
in the bridge)
But I'm undecided on what pickup colour to get, I have some mock ups, excuse the bad paint-editing
All pink
or
Pink and black.
Now I love both, however they both have pros and cons:
All Pink, pros:
Looks incredibly 80s.
Is very upbeat and bright.
Cons:
Slightly overbearing.
Pink+Black pros:
Very popular
Not massively bright
Cons:
Black is slightly dull.
Now I would like to hear the opinions of you guys at Jemsite!
Now for the other conundrums, for the middle singlecoil, what shoudl I get, blue velvet neck or bridge?
Also
bridge pickup
.
The one I'm most keen on is the ToneZone but would that sound good in a mahogany S?
Also how would the super distortion and X2N sound?
Thanks in advance!

Re: A slight problem.
The TZ should sound fine in mahogany. I see no reason why not.
I had an RG3120 with a TZ in it but it also had a maple top which probably added a touch of brightness. On the other hand I'm not a firm believer that the wood has a huge effect on the sound of a guitar when it's amplified, had effects added, and overdriven. On an acoustic, the wood (especially the top wood) makes a big difference. On an electric, not so much. Some will disagree with me, but whatever, I am not convinced.

Re: A slight problem.
Well I believe the whole wood thing, the very very slight ones not so much, like Poplar and alder, but mahogany and alder, or korina and
swamp ash
, you can tell a difference between them, but yeah the amp does make up more than the wood, in my books it goes Fingers>Amp>Wood>pedals>pickups for tone changing factors.
Anyway so the tonezone is good for Mahogany? That's good then, the X2N seemed TOO high output and the Superdistortion. . just seemed a bit.. not right.

Re: A slight problem.
that guitar is going to be awsome
+109821987 on that idea
PLEASE post pics when finished!
PS: so hard to decide...I'd go with Pink+Black 'cos the black matches with the tuners and some of the hardware

Re: A slight problem.
Oh. . damn the tuners will be chrome like the bridge, the bridge has to be chrome as my ZR is chrome and I don't think black tuners would go well with chrome trem and knobs.
And it really seems the black and pink is the "better" (or at least more accepted) choice.
EDIT: And yes, there will be many pictures!

Re: A slight problem.
can you get pink and green pickups? or just straight green? i think it would look super sweet with green on yellow.
i love the
tone zone
in mahogany. almost every ibanez i own that is mahogany has a tone zone in the bridge and an
air norton
in the neck...including my 2 s540's.

Re: A slight problem.
I love the TZ in my RG760. It sounds very articulate and dynamic.
I like it better than evos in basswood. You can always buy boobin
toppers in any color if you want or pickup caps and shave them down
and adhear to the pup. Look them up on the Bay express if you are
interested on the caps.
Go with all pink IMO.

Re: A slight problem.
I have the TZ in the bridge of my S470 and a PAF Pro in the neck. I had to dial the amp in to get the tone i wanted. (Mostly a PG type tone). I alternate between my RG550 which also has the TZ in the bridge and my S470. To my ears there is a mild tonal difference from the basswood RG and the mahogany S in regards to the tone zone. By working with the
amp settings
i found that the S had a slightly more responsive spectrum than did the RG. I still love both guitars and wouldnt trade em. Now if I could only dial in that elusive
Andy Timmons
tone that i'm seeking!!!!
Good luck

Re: A slight problem.
So tonezone in the bridge is a good idea? Gewd.
Now, the blue velvet, which model should I get, bridge or neck? as it's going in the middle I'm confused as to which I should get.
Also does anyone know a place in England where I can get pink singlecoil covers? Cos I've found that DiMarzio don't do the blue velvet in pink.

Re: A slight problem.
i'd go with a pink & green pattern, so that is would match the
pyramid inlays
, and it also looks great in a yellow background
