About my new RG-470

Hi
I recently received a MIJ RG470 i bought on evilbay and i'm really pleased with it.
it's Titanium Ice coluour and the bridge pickup has been replaced by a duncan SH6 i beleive (allen screws on both coils).

When I received it i took a look at the neck before bolting it and it said (550 R6) or something like that. does that mean the neck is an Original Wizard instead of a Wizard II ? I thing 550s came with an Original one.

Also, I read lots about the Lo-TRS trem (not TRS II) and it really works better than what I expected. I'm having a bit of trouble on the low E and A strings, but no more than that.

I wanted to know if anyone could give me some advice to get the best out of this trem. I'm planning on replacing it with a gotoh some day, but I'm really out of cash.
I would really appreciate if someone could give me some tips or mods to get it working as well as possibly.

Thanks for taking the time to read and sorry for my english
Martín

Well that's the beauty of the tremol-no. You can lock it when you don't want to use the whammy bar, and you can unlock it when you do!

Re: About my new RG-470

I've read thousands of threads that say "A well setup TRS" will perform well.
I would like to know if there's anything special you should do... read something about "chapstick" but I don't know what that means :S (i speak spanish as I'm from argentina)

Thanks for taking the time to read

Re: About my new RG-470

You put the chapstick on the knife edges and post so you have less friction. Its a means of lubricating it so it doesnt hang up. The trs will perfrom okay enough but will break down on you eventually due to being made of a softer metal.

yeah, perform well, not great...I could never do anything past simple dives on my 470, even after it was pro setup.

Re: About my new RG-470

Hmm, its 2nd hand so the probability of the knife edges to wore out is very high. You could file the knife edges a bit to make it sharper or just make it more neat and yeah, lube it up.

Im not too sure 'bout this but i think if you're fitting a gotoh soon, you would need to trim down the trem block a bit/use the old trem block/purchase new trem block. Also the stud posts for Lo TRS I is smaller than the gotoh/ofr/lo-trs II's so you might need to get it modded or just use the old posts.

Re: About my new RG-470

Thank you ^^
It's my first ibanez and i'm really pleased with it
it's still taking some time to get used to the neck as it's really thin compared to my old kramer
but i love it!
